Chapter 46: What is [Enchant]?
[{Lightning Tor}. The Lightning Type Magic Spell with the greatest amount of destructive power. Consolidating all the lightning in the sky, it drops all the bolts into a single point. Any lifeforms with low Magic Power will instantly turn to charred ash.]
I hear a horrifying description echo inside my head.
And I enchant the Spell against several dozen rocks, and we depart!
Ain: “There is a map for this Dungeon?” Eriol: “Yes we did. The Adventurer who was tasked with destroying the Dungeon Core was incredibly meticulous. Here, this is the map.”
And on the sheep skin paper, Prince Eriol showed me a map that marked every point on this floor.
Ain: “But wouldn’t this be useless if you already found the stairs to the next floor?” Eriol: “I would think so too, but it looks like they fully explored each floor before proceeding every time.”
Why? Well, in any case, now we can progress without getting lost.
Eriol: “By the way, Lou Quain. It’s about your Enchanted Stones.”
Ain: “Yes.” Eriol: “What would happen if you accidentally dropped one?” Ain: “…….I actually never tested that.” If I tried to determine that, one failed test could mean my death.
Eriol: “……..I see.”
And as Prince Eriol answered, he slowly backed away.
And the Knights around me started putting some distance between me.
Ain: “IーIt’s fine. I won’t drop the rocks.”
Royce: “But Sir Lou Quain. You have all those rocks inside your pocket. If the rocks inside the pocket hit against one another……”
And everyone except Sia took one more step away.
Wait, wait. It’s fine. I think……..
Ain: “It hasn’t exploded or set off by accident once.”
Royce: “Up until now…….right, Sir Lou Quain? If my {Lightning Tor} ignited by accident and explodes……..I can’t even……eek.”
Ugh, of course, if you put it that way, I’d be scared too.
Eriol: “Then how about this? If the rocks are ineffective unless Lou Quain holds it, then Sia can hold onto the rocks in the meantime.”
Ain: “Well, that is safer but……”
There’s so many rocks, I have some of it stored in my pocket, and I have placed the rest in my Item Box sack.
I think this sack would also lose its effect if Sia holds it because it used my [Enchant].
Ain: “Then Sia, can you at least hold the stones in my pocket?” Sia: “Yea. Put in Sia’s bag.”
At the town, I purchased a waist pouch for Sia. Something that won’t hinder her movements.
Inside is a hand towel and potion, but if we put rocks in there, wouldn’t the bottles break?
Hmmmm, maybe I should make another pouch with the Alchemy BOX?
I have enough cloth from when we were making the coverings for the Sheepoo.
During our break time, I studied Sia’s pouch, and I made something similar to it.
Okay, it’s a little awkward, but it useable!
I have the inside of the pouch separated into 5 different sections. It’s to be able to differentiate the different Spell Enchanted Stones.
Ain: “Okay, Sia, it’s done. Then let me just place the stones in here andーー”
The rocks noisily clatter against one another, and I hand the pouch to Sia.
She now has a pouch on her left and right side, but is she okay with that?” Royce, who was quietly observing my exchange with Sia, crossed his arms and wondered aloud.
Royce: “I see. So a simple knock against the stone will not initiate the Spell.”
Ain: “Hm? What do you mean, Royce?”
Royce: “Well, when you were moving the stones just now, they were clattering against one another, right? That means even if the stones hit one another, it’s okay.” What? Now that I think about itーー
Royce: “Besides, do the rocks initiate the Spell from impact? Or will it initiate if you drop it on the ground?” Ain: “I’m……not sure……” I feel like I remember hearing that the Dungeon Boss Dimensional Stones, which served as a base to create the Item Box, said it was initiated by throwing.
And I placed the stone enchanted with Royce’s Spell in the Alchemy BOX and it did indeed say, “by throwing~”.
And the rest of the stones were the same.
Ain: “I think I have to throw it?” Royce: “Then what about if you drop it?” Ain: “I’m not sure.”
Royce: “Then we’ll just have to test it out.”
So we ended up testing his theories.
First, we have Priests on standby. It’s just in case I get hurt.
We have Royce cast {Mini-Water}. It’s the least powerful Spell in his repertoire.
I enchant it to a stone.
I drop it next to my foot.
Nothing happens.
Ain: “I guess dropping it is not enough.”
Eriol: “What about if you throw it 2, 3 meters (~4 to 6 feet) from you, Lou Quain.” Ain: “I’ll give it a try.” Nothing happened here either.
As we tested various methods, we learned that the way I throw it is more important than the distance thrown.
Throwing stones underhand failed.
But if I throw it like a pitcher on a baseball team, it finally initiated the Spell.
And what was most important was my intention to [hit the target] when I threw it.
Ain; “I’ve been throwing it without too much thought, but whenever I did throw a stone during combat, I did throw it with the intention to hit my opponent.”
Royce: “Well, I’m glad we figured it out. Now we can relax.”
The Knights all let out a sigh of relief, but they still kept an awkward, slight distance from me.
