Without Me - Chapter 10 Rebirth Of The Phoenix
Yao Xi, in a state of despair, didn’t bother, with further noises reaching her ears. She thought that this was another joke of her exhausted imagination. So, when something touched her arm, the shock tore her from the dullness that forced her to open her eyelids and look in awe in front of her.
The light of the sun seeping through the window blinded her. With great difficulty, she refrained from covering her eyes.
The pain that hadn’t disappeared, came back in the moment she moved her finger. Though it was unimaginable, the joy of welcoming brightness cast him into the background of her mind.
– Ma’am, please …
Yao Xi heard the man’s panicked voice before his worried face appeared in her field of vision.
The blinding light hurt her eyes, but she stubbornly stared at the stranger, afraid that if she closed her eyes for a moment, he would disappear.
Though her eyes were foggy, she could see the older man with a face covered with wrinkles and sincere concern in his watery eyes.
Gray strands of hair, which got messy when they leaned over her, were intertwined with golden threads of sun rays falling through the window behind his back.
She knew that he was the one who spoke to her, pulling her out of the clutches of darkness.
At the mere mention of this warm voice piercing through the darkness at her darkest hour, Yao Xi’s eyes showed a pinching feeling announcing a stream of bitter tears.
” Madam, ” he said, panicked, seeing the drops gathering at the corners of her eyes. ” I’m a doctor from X hospital . Do you feel any pain?”
Pain? She stopped feeling pain long ago. The feeling that he understood as pain, for her it was just an inconvenience. What she was experiencing went beyond any notion of feeling. She doubted that he would be able to understand even the smallest part of his consciousness of the state in which she was.
She couldn’t answer him because he couldn’t understand it in any way. It was beyond the image of someone, who has never experienced it.
– You had a very serious car accident. Almost all of yours bones were broken, and internal injuries and serious brain damage led to coma. – he calculated, when he noticed her confused expression, he added: – You have been in a coma for almost three months …
Wait a minute …
What?
A serious car accident? Coma?
Why does it seem to her that she has already experienced it?
She was in the basement, in some hidden place of Li Ye Han. How is this possible?
Yao Xi’s mind was working at full speed, but she could not put these pieces of puzzle together.
No, it must have been a joke. For sure.
“I’m crazy.”
She died, and this is one of the visions she has been tossed into by some devil. Now they are laughing at her in hell for her stupidity and naivety.
“Very funny”, she laughed in her soul. “You bastard, stop playing with me! If you want to play with me, I swear that if I have the opportunity, I will cut off your balls! We’ll see if you’ll laugh then! ” She consciously cursed the one who gave her this comical joke, whoever he was. He could be King Yama himself. She cursed everyone who decided to play with her, making her a fool.
Yao Xi’s breathing accelerated when she experienced her inner struggle with someone, she didn’t know with who exactly.
But the doctor watching her, faintly panicked. With furrowed eyebrows, he was intensely studying the apparatus the woman had been hooked into for the past months, and the pen in his hand was typing something on the page with dizzying speed.
“Easy,” he said when he finished writing the parameters. “Your heart speeded up, and your blood pressure jumped dangerously. In that state, you must not be nervous. I will ask the nurse to give you sedatives and painkillers. Although your condition is stable, our strongest medications will not eliminate the pain, but they can ease it a bit. Please try to fall asleep, and when you are able, please provide the nurse with contact information for yours family members, we will inform they about your condition. You were brought back after an accident without any documents, so we couldn’t inform anyone, but since you have already woken up, we will notify the family. You will not be alone.” – He gave her a thoughtful smile before he disappeared behind the unit’s door, his footsteps reverberating in the hospital corridor.
Yao Xi still couldn’t move her muscles, so she couldn’t pinch herself to make sure if her mind was real or if what is happening is real.
If what the doctor said was true, it meant that she had awakened from a coma after a car accident three years earlier. If it was true, it meant that …
Was she reborn ?!
Holly shi * t!
She flipped through all the pages of her memories, searching for something, some clue that could tell her how it happened, but nothing. Inside her skull, Yao Xi was emptiness.
She felt as if her brain had gone on holiday, leaving only the empty space, that she imagined as an abandoned and unoccupied attic.
The pain radiating from every nerve in her body didn’t help her to focus. She still felt painful wounds on her back, left by Li Ye Han. And although she was probably reborn, and her back was intact three years earlier, she felt as if she’d been stripped of her skin.
She remembered her child and wanted to touch her flat stomach, but she couldn’t move.
A bitter grief filled the heart of Yao Xi, remembering the words of Ruo Yan: “Do you think that Li Ye Han would have a child who is not mine?”
So he killed his own child, just because it didn’t belong to the woman he loves? Then why did he come to her that night ?! Why did he do all this to her then ?!
She didn’t ask for it!
Could he not let the innocent child go? What did he do to him?
He could not accept it, he could give it up, but damn, why would not let him live ?!
Angry fury filled the heart of Yao Xi, and every nerve filled with hatred. “I will never forgive them for what they did to my child. Never! “She made an unspeakable oath in her heart.
Li Ye Han thought she was only behind his fortune? Very good! Let him still think like that! He will never know that his grandfather felt only gratitude to Yao Xi for saving his life.
Earlier, she did not even know about the existence of the Li family. She was never interested in any elites, media, politicians or businessmen. She didn’t care about anything, because what for? And so she was going to die. Why would bother with unnecessary matters?
One afternoon, returning from the public school where the adoptive parents enrolled her, she stopped on the bridge, as usual. She loved to look at the rapid river. She always felt calm at the time.
Until at some point, she noticed a man immersed in the icy water that, when he fallen out of the sailing yacht.
So what was she supposed to do? See how the poor man is drowning in front of her eyes? The muscles guided it, without consulting the mind.
She didn’t even know when she was in the river. He was unconscious when she got to him, and that made it difficult for her to save him. She pulled him ashore and began to revive until the ambulance arrived. It turned out that he had a sudden heart attack, lost his balance and fell out on the rail. It was only when one of the guests of the yacht on which the event was held heard a splash, realized that someone had fallen overboard.
Was she risking her own life just to get Li’s family assets? Absolutely not! At that moment, she didn’t think about anything. She didn’t know why her first instinct was jumping into the water from a fifteen meter high bridge. She just did it.
From that distance it was hard even to tell the man’s age, let alone recognize his face as Elder Li.
But for Li Ye Han it was her attempt to get into the influential family.
“Yes”, she thought sarcastically. “Telepathically, I made the old man fall into the water so that I could save him heroically and gain his grace.”
Funny!
It was his grandfather who found her. She didn’t know how he had learned about her identity, but when one day old man visited Yao’s house, her adoptive parents thought she had somehow endured this man.
They already wanted to punish her when Elder Li announced that he had come to offer a marriage to his grandson.
Everyone was shocked by this sudden statement, and the most Yao Xi herself. She didn’t recognize the man she saved in him. She had forgotten about this incident, but the old man apparently had a better memory than her, despite his age.
Did she have a different way than to agree? She could, but she would be dead a long time ago, and her half-sister would carry the heart of Yao Xi.
“Maybe that would be the best …”
She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t notice when the nurse entered her ward and changed the drip. It was only when the woman dug a needle with a sedative in her arm that a sudden prick brought Yao Xi back to her senses.
After a moment, however, her eyelids began to get heavier and the surroundings quieter. The doctor advised her to rest and recover. Very good. She must be full of strength to show those who hurt her that it is not easy to intimidate her. Even death didn’t frighten Yao Xi enough to let her go. Contrary. Previously she was a woman who accepted her fate without complaining. She agreed on everything that people around her decided for her: her life, marriage, pregnancy, death.
Everything was imposed on her. Now she was going to live for herself.
First things first. She had to deal with the trash that had not been thrown out of her life for many years.
She promised herself that they would repay her harms a thousand times more. She will revenge her child and grandfather, who was the only person in the world who treated her like a human being, not as a trash.
Since she had already got a chance from fate, she intended to use it in its entirety.
Until she feels satisfied.
