Without Me - Chapter 20 Temperament Of Doctor Sun
The atmosphere became denser when Li Ye Han glanced Dr. Sun, who blocking his path with a hellish stare.
No one has ever dared to stand in his way, and those who have committed this have met an unpleasant end.
Li Ye Han emitted a natural, dominant aura that was so intimidating and dangerous, that there were few people who would dare to oppose him. However, the older man in front of him remained unmoved, as if he was not only afraid of him, but even cast him with a fearless look, full of reproaches. And only his courageous and unwavering attitude made Li Ye Han stop in the in half-step. He was more surprised than scared by accusing old man’s eyes, and a flash of exasperation pierced his eyes.
Dr. Sun didn’t waste time. Without wrapping in the bush, he turned to the topic that he wanted to move: “Mr. Li, as the chief doctor who took care of Mrs. Yao for three months, I am forced to remind you that as her husband, you should pay more attention to what is happening to her. “He started sharply, as if he didn’t talk to the most powerful and deadly man in the country. He was a doctor with a real vocation to save life, and the fate of his patients was not indifferent to him. After that, Yao Xi was special. He spent some time with her in the hospital during the therapy and he noticed that under that cold mask of indifference lies an incredibly fragile and lonely woman. He saw many patients who were not even half as wounded as her, and exaggerated their injuries, only to gain the favor of family members and friends. However, she was different, unique. No matter how painful the research went through, she never even complained about the worst pain. She endured everything with endurance worth a man, stubbornly refusing help. She didn’t want to rely on others and she would bear in silence, alone, as Dr. Sun noticed when she refused to inform her family under any pretext. But he knew something was wrong and today he confirmed his suppositions. Seeing her unbelievable courage and great reluctance to arouse pity, he felt a strange attachment to her. Not knowing when, he began to treat this little girl, like his own daughter, so seeing the unacceptable attitude of her so-called husband, he couldn’t stop his explosive temperament. “I don’t care about your background, money or possibilities. You could even be the Emperor, and I would say the same. There is a hospital here. For me, as a doctor, you are completely irrelevant. I have eyes only for patients, so when I see that my patient is neglected by family members, it is my duty to report it to the appropriate authorities.
“Are you threatening me, Dr. Sun?” Li Ye Han asked in a whip-like tone.
However, Dr. Sun wasn’t moved. He straightened up and although he was lower by a head, his authority and many years of experience gave him an aura, which was in no way inferior to Li Ye Han.
“I’m just warning,” he announced coldly, not worrying about the dangerously low temperature that suddenly flooded the hall. “Your wife got here three months ago, we only managed to save her, but she fell into a coma anyway. She didn’t have any documents with her, so we couldn’t confirm her identity, but you certainly noticed the disappearance of your wife, and yet you didn’t contact any hospital to find her. Not only that, you did not even notify the police. During this time, we managed to restore the actions of her heart, which stopped several times. Your wife could have been dead, and you wouldn’t even be aware of that. When she was discharged from the hospital, I gave Ms. Yao explicit instructions that she would not undergo any strain and avoid stressful situations. “Dr. Sun realized the thought and only then remembered how Yao Xi said that her husband was abroad. Li Ye Han might have thought that Yao Xi had complained about her husband that he was not interested in her. Therefore, in order not to make Yao Xi any unpleasantness, despite his dislike of this man, he took his professional tone, although one could still feel the note of anger in him. “Miss Yao mentioned that you were on a business trip abroad during her hospitalization, so this time I will not report this incident, but if a similar situation happens again, please don’t mind that I did not warn you. By signing a marriage certificate, you have committed to taking care of your wife’s health and life. The condition in which she came to us today, shows that the wounds have opened up as a result of beatings, and mistreatment of a woman is punishable in this country, regardless of origin. So, if you’re already here, take care of your wife properly. And I hope that you will deal with the matter of that beating properly. “He took a step back, measuring Li Ye Han with a look of displeasure and contempt. He adjusted his glasses on his nose and added: “The condition of the patient is stable at the moment. She should wake up in a few hours. We will keep you inform on every change. Goodbye.”
With these words he left, heading for the doctor’s office, leaving behind two men in a state of complete disbelief.
Nobody has ever dared to say that to Li Ye Han. Who he was, knew the whole country. You may not have known the president, you may not have known the prime minister, but by far everyone knew who the powerful Li Ye Han is! And that demented old man even dared to threaten to report to the police that he was abusing his wife ?! The world went crazy, Long Fei thought, rooted in place, still unable to get out of shock. Mentally, he was already condolences to the family of a doctor who was tired of life.
When he recovered, he turned to Li Ye Han with the intention of asking him how to deal with the old fart, but Li Ye Han, as if reading in his mind, waved his hand. He was not going to deal with it now.
He headed for the ICU unit, where he watched from behind the glass pane the unconscious Yao Xi , connected to various complicated apparatus.
She was unnaturally pale, with dark shadows under her eyes and dried-up purple lips. She looked as weak as if she were on the verge of death. Her chest didn’t even move when she was still. And only a machine that worked without interruption, pumping red liquid into the drip, and another, which showed life parameters, showed that she was still alive.
The nurse who watched over Yao Xi recorded the results every few minutes, displaying the devices, improving the bedding, or controlling the speed of the drip fluid, and Li Ye Han watching her every move, so he would be sure if whether the nurse made no mistake
Long Fei left for a moment, and when he returned, he gave Li Ye Han a plastic cup with fresh steaming coffee. He accepted the mug without a word and continued to look through the glass.
Time passed slowly, and Long Fei, tired of waiting, finally fell asleep in an uncomfortable sitting position on one of the hard chairs in the corridor. His head was tilted to the right side, and a drop of saliva hung from the corner of his mouth. If anyone could see him now, they wouldn’t have guessed at all that this uncouth and disheveled man was a young master of a very influential and respected military family. Now he looked more like a homeless than a grandson of a well-deserved general who won many medals from the President himself in recognition of his merits.
When the sky outside the window began to take on a pink shade, a young nurse appeared, offering with a trembling and innocent voice one of the VIP rooms for Li Ye Han to rest. However, the man didn’t even register her presence. He was still standing in the same place, looking carefully through the glass, afraid that he might miss the moment when Yao Xi would wake up.
The nurse escaped, embarrassed. Seeing such a wonderful man, she couldn’t resist the temptation to come, hoping that her extraordinary beauty would be enough to attract attention. But when she was ignored, tears appeared in her eyes. Like many women, she was also empty. She wanted to change her life by picking up a rich man and end up being a nurse dealing with the sick. Even if her attempts at seduction took place just before the ICU, where lay the unconscious wife of her new target. She did not care. But now she could only hide in the nursing room, praying that the man would not remember her face. It would give her another chance next time.
In the dim light of the soft bulbs, Li Ye Han’s lips were tightly clenched. He hadn’t changed position for several hours, still standing in the same place, and yet he looked scary and majestic, like a statue of some Greek god. His dark eyes were constantly watched by Yao Xi and the machines that monitored her heart’s work, thanks to which he could see exactly the rhythmic pulsing of the line on the monitor. He stared at the line for so long that it seemed to him that his own heart had arbitrarily adjusted the pace to beat like her heart.
Suddenly a silent but nervous voice came from behind him: “What about her?”
Li Ye Han turned and frowned at the sight of Cheng Yazhe. He was pale and extremely weak, so that he had to support the walls as he walked toward him, pushing a rack with a drip attached to his vein. He gave a lot of blood to help Yao Xi, and when the doctors announced that two bags were enough, he insisted on giving away two more to make sure that this is enough. As a result, he fainted in the middle of the third bag and woke up only now, and the first thing he did when he opened his eyes was coming here to find out about the state of the girl.
“Is everything alright?” He asked when he hadn’t received the answer, stepping closer and peering through the window to the room. His heart raced from the rhythm at the sight of the girl whose white-washed complexion blended with the white of the sheets. Only her amber hair was on the background of a bright cushion, which was like flames.
“Mm.” Li Ye Han grunted in response. Despite his reluctance, he felt grateful to Cheng Yazhe for what he did, and Dr. Sun’s words still echoed in his head.
He felt frustrated at the thought that Cheng Yazhe had done more to his wife than he himself. But all he could do was stand it. Everything the doctor said was true and there was no point in denying it.
He turned his head back to the window and none of them spoke again. Everyone lost in their own thoughts, ignoring their presence and temporarily burying a battle ax between them.
