World Online - Chapter 254: Sacrifice
Jake closed his fist, but it didn’t close all the way. Instead, he felt the cold shiver that came whenever he gripped his sword.
Clang!
Jake raised his immediately, and just in time. The brown flash had gotten to him, and the sword came hailing down, but it stopped just inches from his face.
Jake was now on the ground, with the zombie leader standing over him, the sword of the zombie leader stopped by his own.
Jake kicked the ground to push himself away from the zombie leader, getting back on his feet. He looked around, at all of the zombies around him that were slowly walking toward him.
None of them cared that he was fighting someone else.
“Come on! Take care of these zombies! They are swarming me too much. Tanks!” Jake shouted as he locked eyes with the zombie leader again, who stood immobile, glaring back at Jake.
“Twice you have surprised me.” He said, with a low and hoarse tone.
“That is twice too many. I shall not tolerate this anymore. You must die.” The zombie’s eyes glinted as the brown flash, well, flashed.
The zombie disappeared, and this time, Jake didn’t even hesitate to move forward. He was not slow, and he could match the zombie’s speed as well.
Clang!
Two swords struck, and this time, it wasn’t Jake who was at the disadvantage. Pushing the zombie back, Jake smiled as he took a few steps back, calmly assessing the situation.
“Good. The enemy is clearly flustered and seems to be in the wrong state of mind. That is what I need him to be in.” Jake told himself as he calmly looked at what the zombie leader was doing.
They were a mere three feet apart and now, none of the zombies came near him.
“I was hoping to save this for later. I wanted to use this when someone stronger came here, but you irritate me far too much. I must not let someone like you exist any longer.” The zombie growled as his eyes suddenly changed colors.
From a green, they turned bright red, shining even as the sun shone down on both of them.
The zombie’s sword also shone. The rusty sword was no longer that pathetic looking. It was shining with a similar red shine, and it looked like this zombie was ready to unleash his biggest attack.
“How the hell is this an A ranked mission? This is clearly much harder.” Jake made a quick note as he looked solemnly at what was happening.
He was ready to deploy the last card that he always had to defend any attack that was going to come at him. The armor’s reflection.
But he was also hesitant. There were too many around him, and unlike last time, some of them could possibly understand what his armor could do.
If his armor’s skill got out, then he would be the object of so many’s greed and envy, not a position to be in.
“Fine. I will do what I can. I can always run.” Jake told himself.
But as he was thinking about this, the zombie leader was ready. He glared at Jake, and started rushing at him.
The moment the zombie leader moved, red waves suddenly emanated from the zombie, and it pushed the zombies around Jake away.
All of the zombies in a fifty feet radius suddenly shifted position as the zombie leader rushed toward Jake.
And as if taking Jake slightly, the zombie leader didn’t even use his fastest speed. He was running slowly, and it was taking time for him to approach Jake.
But Jake felt like something had locked him down right where he was.
He felt nostalgic. He was in this situation before, he remembered it.
“I guess I must end my expedition here. Damn it.” Jake cursed as he raised his sword in one last ditch attempt.
The zombie leader was just a few steps away from Jake now, and he raised his sword, its bright red blade slashing down at Jake.
“I’ll attack firs-”
Before Jake could even try to retaliate, he felt the pressure that was mounting on him suddenly disappear.
And in front of him, a large shadow appeared.
“Someone intervened?” he looked up to see what had happened.
He saw a familiar figure.
“It is an honor to serve you, guild master. I hope that with this, you will be able to kill this monster.” Ghostly Star smiled as he slowly stumped onto the ground.
In the middle of his chest, a gaping hole presented itself. It was a red hole, and the zombie leader’s attack clearly passed through here,
“He took the attack in my stead?” Jake was shocked only for a moment, before he looked back at the zombie leader, who was just as stunned as Jake was.
“Time and time again, I am hampered. Three times, I was so close to killing you, and the world just doesn’t want you to die!” The zombie leader roared with anger that seemed to pierce the heavens.
His arms bulged, becoming twice the size they were just a few moments ago. His eyes remained red, and his gray skin got even more terrifying to look at.
His face started morphing, becoming larger than before.
His whole body seemed to be getting bigger and bigger.
It was like he was slowly transforming into a bigger monster, one that certainly looked terrifying.
“Damn it. He is even capable of transformation?” Jake cursed as he jumped forward.
He knew better than to let the zombie complete his transformation. Once it did, it would become that much harder to defeat it.
“Slash of Hunger!” Jake exclaimed as his sword of yellow tried to pierce the zombie’s thick chest. With the growing size of the zombie, that was the only place he could try and attack.
“You are too late, midget.”
