Worthless - Chapter 88
There was definitely something wrong inside that spray because hell, Jian Yu was starting to feel drowsy, if not, a little feverish.
It happened rather quickly and Jian Yu’s vision wavered. His movements were heavy and slow as he leant against the examination table Z was on. The Beta’s mind was immediately filled with adrenaline and fear.
His fear was so thick that he could smell it himself, and it made the situation much, much worse.
It had to be a heat inducer, Jian Yu was sure of it. Why would Dr. Liam do something like this to him? There were many question marks appearing in the Beta’s mind, questioning the doctor’s action. There was something off about him, especially today.
What did he mean by not coming near him smelling like an Alpha? Why was it nauseating to him?
‘And who are you to tell me that you feel the need to reprimand me for that?’ Jian Yu chided at himself.
Anyway, that wasn’t the one thing that bugged the silverette.
It was true that the scent of another Alpha might set another Alpha off, but his reaction wasn’t exactly that. Instead of getting aggressive like any typical Alpha, Dr. Liam actually looked like he was disgusted.
However, wasn’t he an Alpha himself?
He was much more similar like a Beta getting fed up with the dominating scent of either an Omega or Alpha. Jian Yu was absolutely familiar with these signs because that was what he usually did when smelling those pungent smells.
Jian Yu’s knees buckled when another wave of heat washed over him. Being in between the heat from his inner body and the cold air from the outside, Jian Yu’s body shook, causing him to get goosebumps all over.
His heart pounded frantically in his chest. His head also pounded, like something was delivering hard blows to his head with a hammer.
He could feel tears forming at the corner of his eyes unconsciously from all the pounding as Jian Yu had fallen to his knees and clutched his head, grunting in pain.
The Beta closed his eyes and took a deep breath, not before cursing.
Fuck. Was it really a heat inducer?
But even if it was… Why was it working on him? Wasn’t a Beta like him not supposed to be affected by such a thing, right?
A thought made him pause.
No…
He was wrong.
He once experienced something horrible.
A heat that had hit him out of nowhere… years ago.
Years ago, yet he could still feel it vividly, like it happened yesterday.
On that particular day, he had been feeling extra touchy and rather irascible. He was so short-tempered that he even snapped at Rei that day. Inspector Han thought he had come down with a bad cold, telling him to stay home and take a rest.
In the end, he stayed in Inspector Han’s office, curling up on the couch and trying to read, hoping it would distract him from the discomfort of the fever aches that made him irritable.
He had fallen into a fitful sleep, the cold fever and heat constantly going on, disconcerting and misleading his body by alternating frequently between overheating or shivering with fever chills.
His body had convulsed, malfunctioned as he couldn’t take the constant change of temperature. Fortunately, Rei kept checking up on him that he was able to be saved. Sent to the hospital and had the doctors stabilize him.
Because his body wasn’t made to withstand a ‘heat’.
And his body was only trying to protect him, it threw itself out of balance and attempted to fix him, which only made the situation worse by almost killing him.
In his hazy daze, he recalled how Inspector Han and a few more people with unfamiliar faces were shouting, demanding the doctors what happened. The doctors ran a test, but there was no sign of fever or infection.
After testing anything they could think of, the only thing they could come up with was that he was having a heat.
After everything was over, Jian Yu was shocked, but also terrified and unable to stop thinking about what had happened.
During Inspector Han’s visit in the hospital, Jian Yu came crying and asked Inspector Han about it, the old man responded with a reassuring and comforting tone that maybe he was just born different.
However, Jian Yu noticed the hesitation in the old man’s tone. Inspector Han had paused and was unable to meet his gaze when he said them.
In conclusion, he had to say it was his first time experiencing heat. And it was terrifying. He thought heat wasn’t something to be afraid of because Omegas seemed to enjoy those moments.
But it was a totally different case for him. He was experiencing something wrong in the wrong body, which made Jian Yu scared. Saying he panicked was an understatement.
If it had happened once, wouldn’t that mean it could happen again?
With that mindset, he took a bottle of suppressants with him whenever he went. It went on for years until he finally threw that thought away when the heat no longer visited him.
Jian Yu grimaced. Had he smelled something he wasn’t supposed to that day?
The Beta grunted when a wave of heat washed over his body followed by cold chills running down his back. Goosebumps covered his whole body as he shivered.
He had to get out of here. Right now.
He was finally able to get up to his trembling feet and caught sight of a single pup lying peacefully on the examination table and Jian Yu felt the urge to whine.
Oh, gods. Why now?
His fingers clenched tightly against the cold railing of the examination table, trying to think of what to do before a loud bang made him jump, his heart almost flew out of his chest.
But when the familiar light brown hair and emerald eyes entered his view, Jian Yu felt a huge relief washing over him.
“Rei! My dear brother!”
