X-Rank Hunter - Chapter 66: Don Cruz
The night passed by hurriedly and the sun had risen in all excitement. On the other hand, Jim was still in a deep sleep as there was no sign of him waking up. Sheiyn was sleeping beautifully as well and it seemed like she was still having a nice dream with her idol.
However, it wasn’t the sun excitedly risen for without reason. Just outside the house of Jim’s house, a battle of words had already erupted!
“Oh, I never expect that the guild master of the number one guild would actually crawl here in front of my house so early in the morning just to ruin my mood.” Charley sneered seeing the one in front of her.
Early in the morning, Sheiyn’s father, Don Cruz with his two lackeys who wore a black suit, arrived at their house. Don was in his 50’s but the traces of his muscular body was still could be clearly seen beyond his suit. His black hair was tied like a ponytail and his sharp eyes with a vertical scar on the right made him look cool and scary.
Don sneered as well seeing the wife of his old rival in front of him. However, he also felt embarrassed considering that he needed to go to the house of his own rival by himself. But since the reason why he went here was his daughter, it was no big deal for him even if he tarnished his own pride.
“I never expect as well that a Royal Hunter would actually kidnap my daughter!”
The relationship between the two was not really that good since Don and Charley’s husband was a mutual rival ever since childhood. But of course, there was no great enmity between them that could make them fight to death.
Even so, Don had many grudges against Joe that he would never forget in his lifetime. One of those was that long ago, it was said that when they were still in their youth, Don was trying to tame an Evolving White Wolf he found in the Black Forest. When he was about to subdue it, Joe suddenly barge in and stole his target. As a result, instead of Don, Joe became its owner.
It was only one of the many grudges of Don against Joe, but that was the first time!
“I can assume that you want a fight right?!” Charley laughed coldly.
Don laughed as well in coldness hearing what she just said. People around were scared out of their wits and tried to back away as far as possible.
Don then released his oppressive aura in response. “Hehe, why not?”
Of course, Charley didn’t hold back as well and released her aura too. The aura that they were releasing was enough for someone in Middle Ranker and below to fall on their knees. Fortunately, those people were now pretty faraway but even so, the people afar could still feel the terrifying pressure from both Charley and Don, making those people sweat profusely.
How could you imagine that the elegant-looking Charley and someone who was as dignified as Don would actually act so childish when they were together!
One could immediately see their ‘closeness’ with each other!
Fortunately, Sheiyn had woken up and went outside to see what was happening. When Don saw her daughter, he suppressed his own aura right away as Charley immediately followed suit.
Both Don’s lackey was terrified of what they just saw. Even though they were both S-rank Hunters, they couldn’t do anything but tremble in fear. There was even an urge in them to kneel on the ground.
Don ignored Charley as he immediately rushed to his daughter in joy. He lowered his body and gave his daughter a warm hug. Don completely let his guard down and even showed his back towards Charley.
“Are you ok my sweet daughter? Did they do anything bad to you?” Amidst Sheiyn’s embarrassment from the action of his father, she heard her father asking her worriedly. After a moment of silence, Don let go of her daughter and put his hands on both of her shoulders as he added, “By the way, why did you leave us so suddenly?!”
Sheiyn bowed her head down as she was regretting her actions. Her attempt to prove that she was strong, failed. She even lost their family treasure which was the wolf. It was the Evolving White Wolf! How could something like that ever make her father happy if he learned about it?
“I’m sorry dad!” Sheiyn could only mutter those words.
However, she never saw her father lose his cool before. And she felt a little embarrassed seeing her father act like that to the one who saved her and cure her illness. But of course, she couldn’t question her dad. He was still her father after all.
Charley smiled when she saw how happy was Don seeing her daughter safe and sound because she knew full well the feelings of being together with someone you longed for. “Don’t worry I didn’t do anything to your daughter except for treating her illness.”
Don was surprised by what he just heard. He was trying to find other ways to treat her daughter except by coming to his rival’s wife. There were only a few capable healers in the world that could cure her daughter, what even worse was that finding someone trustworthy was like finding a needle in a haystack.
His daughter’s condition was extremely rare. For many Hunters, especially for the High Rankers, it was a great blessing for them. If they encounter someone who had this kind of illness, they would do their best to snatch it away from that person so that they could have it for themselves.
That was also why Charley’s daughter, Jade Jabat, was living together with her grandfather in the guild for greater security and safety. Even though Charley was strong enough to protect her, she would not always be around to do so.
Besides, this Shadow Land they were in of where Demons would possibly appear at any moment was pretty dangerous. She knew that this would benefit the Demons as well and they would do everything to get it if they learn that her daughter had that some kind of illness. They were pretty sensitive regarding this after all.
So even if it was hard for a mother like her to part ways with her child, there was nothing else she could do, it was for their good and safety after all. The person who had that kind of illness might actually die if it was stolen from them since their life was dependent on it.
That was also why Charley only removed the negative effect of Sheiyn’s illness and not the illness itself. If she tried to do so, Sheiyn would no longer be able to live. The same went for her daughter, Charley only removed the negative effect of her Sun Curse for her to live.
Those who had this kind of illness, like Sheiyn or her daughter ‘Jade’ would always be dependent on their illness to live until the day they die.
Now Don was completely speechless and couldn’t even put his gaze at her. His pride was deeply hurt but he was also overflowing with joy. He knew well that he could trust Charley but his pride was always preventing him to ask for help.
“Don’t worry, I didn’t treat your daughter for free! My son has already gotten your payments hehe!” Charley sneered looking down at him. They were just like kids quarreling against each other.
“You!”
The moment Don heard that ‘her son has already gotten her payments’, he already knew that the thing that just got taken away from them by Charley was the family treasure, the wolf that was taken away by her daughter, and the same wolf that he was trying to raise for her.
Don was helpless. He couldn’t take it back as well. Treating his daughter was much more important than his wolf.
“Remember this, there will definitely be a day that you will ask for help from us!” Don could only warn them but even he himself felt that he was doubting his own words. “Damn it! Like father, like son!” Don could only think about this as he gritted his teeth in frustration.
“I needed your help yesterday though, but where were you?” Charley mocked. She was talking about the sudden dungeon break.
Of course, Charley was just trying to tease him. In reality, She didn’t need any help at all. They even managed to win the war with zero casualties.
“…” Don was speechless. Indeed, he also received news from his daughter that they were attacked by the demons so he hurriedly rushed here to help. No, he wasn’t really going here to help but solely to save his daughter.
But they were just simply too far away, how could they arrive here at the right moment? Don could tell that this Charley was just teasing him so he just said, “Next time, I will definitely arrive on time.”
“Really?” Charley laughed.
“Believe whatever you want. We are leaving.” Don straightened his body and beckoned for his company to come over and go back home.
Nevertheless, the wolf that he just lost was simply hard to accept. After all, it was the Evolving White Wolf!
Don thought that the one who had taken care of his wolf was Charley’s second son, Jasper Jabat since he thought that he was the only one capable of doing so. And he also knew that this kid would come back this day.
Never he thought that it was Charley’s first son, Jim Jabat, who took away their wolf.
After giving his warning, Don and her daughter finally prepared to leave together with their two lackeys. Sheiyn bid farewell to her idol before they leave.
Roar!
A Red Dragon descended from the sky and the barrier of the village was helpless on stopping it from coming in. It was quite big and was about twenty meters long. But it appeared that this Red Dragon was still a child.
It trampled beneath its feet a couple of houses in the village as people in it frenziedly tried to runaway. Thankfully, no one was injured but it appeared that it was only a show of power displayed by Don. He wasn’t planning on harming any people in the village though.
After which, Don then jumped to the back of the Red Dragon together with his daughter and the two lackeys immediately followed suit. Without saying any words or bothering himself to look back on Charley, he commanded the Red Dragon to leave right away. Their purpose was already fulfilled. Though it was a huge loss for them to lose their family treasure, Evolving White Wolf, it was a huge gain as well for them for his daughter’s illness to be cured.
The Red Dragon then flapped its wings and flew away immediately! Only Sheiyn was waving her hands to her idol signifying that they were finally leaving.
Seeing that the Red Dragon had already dotted in the sky, Charley’s smile turned into a sigh of relief and disappointment blended together as she turned around and went inside her house.
If she could only be together with her family, how good would it be if it wasn’t just ‘ifs’.
