Xenarra: The Dragon Throne - Chapter 31 The Swords Trial Part I
I reached out and touched one of the swords out of my curiosity of them being there. When the tip of my finger touched it, I felt hell. It was like the sword was a war in itself. I quickly took my hand away from it.
“Kid, I would leave those swords alone. They are weapons who have seen countless wars, no one knows where they are from, just that they are old.”
I went past them all, looking for a minute at each, but not wanting to touch them, after the feeling from the first sword I touched. Then I arrived in front of one of them that looked different to the rest, it looked older and yet I felt like I was drawn to it.
Touching it like I touched the other sword previously, I felt the same feeling at first but then it changed to something else, it felt calming. Grabbing the sword fukky and pulling itself out of the weapon rack, the rust on the sword disappeared a bit, then a voice sounded out in my head.
“Well, who are you to have disrupted my rest, A dragon kin. Interesting and you are one of those, with that bloodline. You better take the test, to see if you are worthy. Bye.”
Then in front of my eyes, I appeared in a battle. I didn’t recognise it though and I didn’t recognise any of the people who were fighting. Then that voice appeared in my head again. “This is the battle of Black Spire. I thought it would be a bit special as you were born and lived on this site. Your goal is simple, survive.”
‘So Black Spire, had a battle here before. I wonder why I have never heard of it until now.’
There seemed to be two different sides engaged in the fighting, one side, had mainly red armour on and the other had mainly blue. Looking at myself, I was wearing the red looking armour. In my hand was a simple sword, it had nothing on it that would make it stand out or look special.
“Well, your time is up to prepare, I hope you can survive.”
Then, I heard it. The sounds of weapons clashing against each other, as well as against bodies of people. The screams when someone was hit as well as the screams of war cries. The yell of some basic orders, could also be heard over the noise of the battle.
The smell as well was horrible, the smell of blood was everywhere. The smell of human waste as well as people were releasing the contents of their bodies as they died.
As a sword came for my head, I reacted, mainly by instinct from the training I had undergone. I raised the sword in my hand up to parry. With the load noise of metal clashing and the sudden force applied to my sword, I realised I had succeeded.
It also shocked me out of my thoughts, reminding I was in the middle of a battle. Looking up at the person who attacked me, I saw a face of pure hate. Confused as I didn’t know what was really happening. I responded with a simple stab, which much to my surprise succeeded with ease.
The face of hate which I had just seen, had changed into one of surprise. Looking up at me, the man in blue muttered, “How? The use of Qi is banned in war. How did yo…” He then slumped down on my sword, dead.
I took out my sword, looking around at the battle. The red side that I seemed to belong to was losing, it was obvious as well. Grimacing, I thought of the one task, that voice had given me, to survive, but in the face of the battle which my side was losing, that seemed impossible.
‘If I want to survive, I have a few choices, run away from the battle or somehow cause the outcome of this battle to change. If I flee though I have a feeling that I will fail. It may be surviving but is that the way it wanted me to survive.’
Seeing someone else, coming towards me, with aim to kill me. I responded and attacked first, ending his life before he could realise what was going on. At this moment it dawned on me, I was faster and stronger than any one else around me.
‘Maybe it has something to do with my bloodline, the voice could have caused it to carry through to whatever this is with me.’
Gripping my sword tighter, I quickly looked around, trying to find the strongest of the opposing sides fighters. It didn’t take long.
I saw a man that was bigger than everyone else around him. In his hands was a great sword, that he was swinging around with ease. Cleaving bodies in two all over the place.
I began to move towards him, killing anyone who got in my way as quickly as I could. The man saw me coming. After splitting someone in half from the top of his head, down to their groin, he moved towards me. Then with a roar, he ran at me. His massive body hurtling towards me, much quicker than I thought that could be possible.
I took the basic stance of the sword style that Erebus had taught me. Although it was designed to fight demons, that man’s size, could make him similar to one. Spreading my feet apart and slightly bending my body down, to give me a solid foundation. I watched him approach.
Although it wasn’t doing much, as he barged across towards me, some swords would appear and slash and stab at him, leaving small cuts across his body from which blood was slowly beginning to seep out.
When he was around a few metres from me. I moved, as fast as I could. I drew my arm back with the sword, like I was going to draw a bow. Then with all of my force, I simply pushed my arm forwards. This caused the sword, in my hand, to move straight to the man’s chest. Due to the speed of which the sword was moving, he wasn’t able to respond in time. The sword with a loud squelch, went straight through his chest, into his heart.
With drawing the sword quickly, I made a couple of quick slashes on his arms, before stabbing his throat. This was done, to make sure he was dead and stop any kind of attack, as he can move in an attack even after he was dead due to the mind still not resending to the fact that the body had been killed so it can still react.
Looking around, I noticed the look of pride and a slight bit of happiness on the other red soldiers faces, as I finished killing the man. Then a yell emerged around me as the killing of the man motivated everyone around me.
I was somehow pushed to the front of the group of red troops I was with. That was when I saw it. A massive dragon had just come over the hill. It black scales were shining as the sun reflected on it. With a roar, it descended onto the battlefield. Bleaching fire onto the blue troops.
I heard there screams and could smell the burnt flesh. But one thing stood out to me more than anything else. I could see a person on the dragons back.
It was a Dragon Lord.
The strongest people in the Imperium.
The master of dragons.
Lords of fire.
Leaders of us the dragon kin.
