You Didn’t Tell Me the Start of My Transmigration Was a Gate - Chapter 11
The Start of Her Return (11)
“Seems like the Kerosene Cloud Whale is alive then.”
Everyone looked at me with the words, “How did you know?” written across them.
“Water with oil floating on it are the characteristics of their habitats.”
“There are whales? Here, in this river?” Kim Tae-Byeong asked. It was understandable. A whale with such a huge body typically swam and lived in the ocean. But that referred to the actual whale, but this monster whale only looked like the real one, but was an entirely different creature.
“It’s not the real whale. Anyway, please be careful. The oil has a numbing effect, so you won’t be able to know if you fall in.”
Everyone nodded anxiously upon hearing my words. As always, the leader Seol Min-Joon now held out his worn out glasses with one hand and looked far into the horizon.
Unique skill, Reconnaissance.
Though it was a skill that I could not have, I’ve seen other rangers or assasination hunters use it. It was similar to my unique skill, Spatial Interference, at the start. It embeds all the surrounding information into our minds and filters out the relevant information for us. As proficiency of his Reconnaissance skill increased, the efficiency of the skill differed greatly.
Though I can’t ask too much from Seol Min-Joon since he is still new to this.
It was good enough just to know if there was a trap lying around or if the ground was about to crumble into shambles. The worst possible scenario was that the bridge collapsed and we could do nothing else but fall prey to the monsters.
“There’s nothing that poses a huge problem.”
As Seol Min-Joon said that, I took the lead in front. The ground might look dangerous since it was damaged in some areas, it would be fine if his Reconnaissance skills said so. There was no reason for him to betray me now.
Everyone followed behind me and started to hold in their breaths. The nasty fishy smell got stronger, and a revolting smell was mixed in it as well.
I checked the bridge’s condition in detail. There was only one variable – the fog that covered the opposite side of the bridge made it impossible to check. I killed the sound of my footsteps and as I moved forward, I could finally see the situation behind the fog.
I clenched my fist and raised it high into the air.
The footsteps that followed behind me stopped in a moment. The tension escalated in the air, and I could see it clearly with my eyes.
The Kerosene Cloud Whale was… out on land.
Though I knew that these kero whales do come above ground at times…
*T/N: I’m gonna use kero whales for short, following the raws.
Wouldn’t it be natural for humans to hope that this wasn’t happening right now? I quickly regained my composure though I was taken aback. It was natural for things to not always go your way. I could not be swayed by such obstacles. Most importantly, how should we solve this immediate crisis?
These whales have bad vision. Due to their degraded levels of sight and hearing, they instead had heightened senses towards movement of other living creatures.
Since it had yet to notice us, it might be possible for us to return the way we came if we moved carefully…
However, since there is a kero whale here, there might be another monster awaiting for us on the other side of the bridge as well.
Thus, a hasty retreat was not viable. Thankfully, that whale on land was alone.
“Kim Tae-Byeong.”
“Y, Yes?”
“How much is your defense?”
“It’s sixteen.”
Sixteen. The Kerosene Cloud Whale itself was not as strong as it looked to be. Besides the oil released in its habitat and the mucus which covered its body that could produce a paralysis effect, its attack was of a normal range. Instead, the Foot General’s destructive power was way higher.
Still, it’s a grade F monster due to the paralysis effect…
“Who has the highest agility here?”
“It’s me.” Seol Min-Joon spoke out. Agility-oriented on top of the Reconnaissance skill. Hmm, he would become a great ranger or assassin if he trained well.
“What’s your strength?”
“Eight.”
It was slightly below average. It would be tough to run across if he carried either me or Kim Tae-Byeong. Since there were a few methods that overlapped, the direction became clearer to me.
“Are you scared of fire?”
“What…?”
