You Didn’t Tell Me the Start of My Transmigration Was a Gate - Chapter 9
The Start of Her Return (9)
However, it seemed difficult for Kim Byeong-Tae, who now lay on the floor, to avoid the next attack. As the Hornet started the drilling motion on its sting –
Poke!
I pierced the dinner knife into the Hornet’s sting as I used Spatial Interference to get near it. As strong as its sting was, it was also the same area where all of its nerves are concentrated. Being attacked at such a sensitive area, it writhed in shock for a couple more seconds. Crack, I forced the dinner knife deeper into it.
Plop, the Hornet’s body fell lifelessly onto the ground. But it fell on top of Kim Tae-Byeong, and the latter frantically got up from his position on the floor.
“Gasp… Gasp…”
“Great job.”
“T, Thank you. Hup, I survived thanks to you.”
He looked like he was about to cry. He looked ridiculous too, as he was covered with the Hornet’s body fluids.
We set off once more after he was cleaned and changed into a new set of clothes we found lying around in the mart. There were no other monsters around yet as we had just killed the Hornet. We barely managed to catch our breaths after we hurriedly escaped to a nearby building.
“Phew.”
“Shall we spend the night here?”
“That would be best…”
“Let’s do that.”
Everyone else replied with an exhausted tone at Sung-Min’s question. Since we brought some perishable food items, we started to prepare dinner with those ingredients. I returned with Seol Min-Jun after I scoured the area, and confirmed that there were no other monsters in the area.
“Here.” Song Da-Jung handed me dinner. I nodded in return at her unexpected goodwill.
“It’s exhausting, right?”
A kind tone. Aha. I then realized that I had forgotten about the real situation now since Kwon Sung-Min had treated me like a leader all this while. Right, I’m young. It was understandable for Song Da Jung to be concerned for my mental health.
“I’m confused since everything happened so abruptly… But you look a lot calmer. I think you’re great.”
She started to grumble all of a sudden. I placed my dinner tray on the floor, and scooped a spoon of what looked like boiled porridge into my mouth. The kitchen utensils were still usable, albeit in a bad condition. Plus, it was best to eat more of these when we still have fresh ingredients around.
“Uh, here… I packed it on our way out, I’ll give this to you.”
Song Da-Jung slipped a jackknife into my hand. Though its blade was shorter than the dinner knife, it was sturdy and sharper.
[Verifying item.]
<Sharp Jackknife>
Grade: F
Attack: 10~20
Description: A sharp jackknife. A fatal blow can be inflicted if stabbed deeply.
It provided critical attack as compensation though it was a grade F item. To have the option of a critical attack in itself was quite meaningful although it had an extremely low probability. It was a weapon better than a dinner knife.
“…Would that be okay? You won’t have any weapons to defend yourself. You should know that weapons are your extra life lines…”
“That dinner knife will break soon, right?”
I looked at Song Da-Jung in surprise. How did she know? I had attacked the monsters twice with this dinner knife of mine and its durability had been worn out quite considerably. It might not appear that way, but when I opened the dinner knife’s status window, this was shown.
[Verifying item.]
<Worn out Dinner Knife>
Grade: F
Attack: 9
Description: Dinner Knife with a blunt blade and missing tooth. It’s about to break soon.
“How did you know?”
“I knew it when I looked close enough. I have been working as a chef’s assistant for a long period, so I can identify a knife’s condition quite accurately.”
Something else came to my mind as I saw her smile widely. Was there a possibility for her to develop this ability into the unique skill ‘The Blacksmith’s Touch’? As she was able to diagnose the condition of a dinner knife as a weapon accurately meant that she had a talent for it.
“It wouldn’t matter much to me even if I wielded it. I might have a high strength count, but my agility lacks considerably.”
“…Thank you then, for now. But please hold onto this dinner knife. It’ll be useful when blocking during emergencies.”
I exchanged the dinner knife with her jackknife. It might be a deal beneficial for me, but Song Da-Jung seemed quite satisfied with it as well.
“You were here!”
“Found him!”
