You’ll Regret It - Chapter 27
The ornately decorated fountain was beautiful. As the sun went down, Yuri sat in front of the fountain and kicked her foot several times. Stones kicked in low heels rolled on the floor.
“Uh, where did he go…… .”
It was difficult because this was the first time Yuri was in the northern part. Larkshid had been away for a while to buy something. After a while, it seemed that the performance for the demons and heroes would begin.
She was worried that the show would start with a nervous face.
“La, Lark!”
A shadow suddenly covered Yuri. She immediately raised her head and looked at the owner of the shadow. She hoped it was Larkshid, but it was not.
It was a man Yuri saw for the first time. A man with pink hair similar to Yuri.
‘Is he a priest?’
The man in a white priest’s suit waved hello to Yuri.
“Hello.”
“Yes. Oh, hello.”
He was covering his eyes with a bandage. Was he a person with poor eyesight? Yuri wanted to quickly move away from her seat. But the man sat down next to Yuri to rest his tired body. Then something fell out of his pocket.
“Hey, you dropped this…”
Yuri picked up the thing and handed it to him. It was a pouch made of fabric that felt soft to the touch for the first time.
‘Eddie will love this fabric.’
Even at this moment, Yuri noticed that she was thinking about children and smiled softly, thinking that she had changed a lot too.
“This… I’m really grateful.”
He soon accepted the item saying thank you.
“Oh, no problem.”
“Is the lady a priest?”
“Oh, no.”
Why are you asking this? Yuri got up from her seat and moved to the side. She was worried that the man would talk about religion after all. Even in Yuri’s hometown, there were people who often brought up religious stories.
“I’m very sorry about this, but I feel a foreign power from the lady…”
At his words, Yuri looked at him for a moment. His atmosphere, it seemed, was out of this world. Although it was evident that he was blind, his clean clothes and his pink hair were too foreign.
“I have been very disrespectful to the lady.”
“……It’s okay, it’s okay.”
“If that’s okay with you, do you know about the God of rest?”
He was a really strange person. God of rest. Yuri had heard of it. He was a god believed by the minority people of Marut Mountain, the northernmost part of the continent. He was a mysterious religion that still existed in a world where people who didn’t believe in the Goddess were usually treated as heresy.
It wasn’t important. The man who was talking about mysterious powers while talking about religion. But the strange aura Yuri felt was making her trust him more and more.
“……No, it’s okay.”
“The lady… You have a great deal of anxiety.”
Yuri frowned. There was no one in the world without worries. If it was the usual Yuri, she would have left without saying anything.
But being with him, it seemed to be getting weirder. Keep hearing that voice she felt like she was going to lose her mind.
“There is only one way.”
“I really…I’m really carefree.”
“Our God of rest has spoken.”
“Well, I mean, I really… … .”
“Keep your faith. Love cannot be with doubt.”
He was a strange person. Yuri thought he might be a mysterious person for a moment, but she was naive. He was truly a strange person.
“The God of rest loves everyone.”
“I, I am fine.”
“I have proof that I believe in the God of Rest…”
Do priests these days sell such things? As he said that, he took out of his pocket a couple of bracelets called the token of his belief in the god of rest and showed Yuri.
‘Clearly, the clothes are the clothes of a priest who believes in the Goddess…’
Was it even allowed to have two religions in the North? It wasn’t like that in the Eastern Temple.
The northern part was a place where so many people gathered, but she didn’t know there was such a free-spirited priest.
“Hey there.”
However, it was really painful to see people who keep making solicitations. Yuri couldn’t stand it any longer.
“Hey, I don’t believe in the God of rest.”
It was the moment Yuri turned around to tell him she didn’t want to hear the story. It was dark there as if dusk had fallen. There was no trace of anyone sitting there.
‘Was it an illusion?’
Yuri pulled her cheek. It was clear that she wasn’t dreaming. Because she felt a tingling pain.
‘It’s not a dream if I feel the pain.’
Did the man really do something to her? Worried, Yuri pinched her cheek once more. It hurt again. Her tingling cheeks reminded her that this was a reality.
‘Are you very tired these days?’
But Yuri hasn’t been very tired these days. Considering that she was able to go out, it was safe to say that she was in the best condition these days. There was only one possibility she could think of, unless she was mistaken.
‘Was he the son of another family…?’
Even Larkshid had speed and power that surpassed humans. Yuri couldn’t even follow him with her eyes. She didn’t know what kind of power the children of other families had, but it seemed like the man earlier was one of them.
‘But why did he talk about the name of the God of rest?’
If Yuri hadn’t read the book Herian had given her, she would have passed on thinking that the man was also a ‘strange pseudo’. A person from a family blessed by the Goddess, he should not speak the name of another god.
Yuri frowned. Her mind was complicated.
“Yuri!”
She looked at Larkshid running from afar, calling her name. The sun had set and it was dark all around, and many lanterns were illuminating the surroundings. Except for a few people taking a break in front of the fountain, there were hardly any people.
“Did you wait long?”
“…Oh, a little bit.”
“What happened?”
Yuri pondered for a moment as to what to say. She thought about it for a while, but worrying him now didn’t seem like a good option.
“Keep your faith. Love cannot be with doubt.”
If those words hadn’t suddenly crossed her head, she would have gone on to say that nothing happened. Yuri slowly opened her mouth.
“It’s just… A priest came and told me to believe in religion. That’s all.”
“Yeah? He’s got big guts.”
“I was surprised that he disappeared so suddenly.”
Larkshid’s expression darkened a little. Then he raised one corner of his mouth and smiled. Surely, he seemed to smile to contain his anger. Then, soon after, he swept his hair and said.
“That’s all right, Yuri.”
“Yes?”
“Aren’t you curious what I bought?”
Yuri was not really curious. She thought of things Larkshid might need. He likes to read books, so he may have bought them. Maybe he bought some ink.
“Um… well, I don’t know. Did you buy a book?”
“No.”
He soon knelt at Yuri’s feet. Muddy dirt was all over his knees, but he didn’t seem to care.
“Oh, uh, there’s dirt on your clothes.”
“Yuri.”
He immediately took out a small box from his pocket. It was a luxurious red box. It didn’t take long for Yuri to realize what the box was.
“La, Lark……”
“We haven’t even had a wedding.”
“…Did, did you care?”
“Of course.”
Yuri’s heart was pounding. Not knowing what to do with herself, her face began to turn red. Yuri, fanning her hand a couple of times to swallow her tears, soon looked at him.
“Will you be with me?”
She liked his soft smile. He always frowned, but she liked the curved corners of his eyes when he looked at her. When she was with him, he always had a smile on the insignificant things.
Perhaps nervous, the moment she saw his slightly red face, Yuri couldn’t hold back her tears any longer. Tears came from so much joy, she covered her face, which must have been a mess, with her delicate hands.
“I will be with you. Everything, you and…”
The anxiety in her heart disappeared like snow. Larkshid seemed to love her no matter what. The moment she knew that he loved her too, her tears didn’t stop.
“…If I had known that you were going to cry like this, I wouldn’t have said it.”
He stood up slowly and gently grabbed Yuri’s left hand. His touch was so tender that she felt like she was about to burst into tears again.
With one remaining hand, Yuri covered her eyes. She couldn’t stop crying, so she couldn’t answer him.
“Everyone is looking at us. Maybe I looked like a very bad guy.”
As Larkshid said that, Yuri looked around her. A few people who had gathered in the commotion were looking at them. In their eyes, it was easy to imagine what Larkshid would look like.
“Are you crying because you don’t like me?”
“Oh, it can’t be.”
“Then will you look at my face now?”
He was still smiling softly. Larkshid immediately put the ring on Yuri’s left hand. The same ring was worn on his hand. Above the thin ring, a jewel with the light of a small violet was shining.
“I will always try.”
On the other hand, a dignified, mischievous face. Now she knew that this kind of playful face was his real face. She wasn’t confident to look at that radiant face any longer.
“So that you can love me.”
Yuri stood on tiptoes and hugged his neck. A cool breeze wafted from the back of his neck.
He then hugged Yuri and patted her back.
A few people watching them applauded unnoticed, but that didn’t matter to them.
