You’ll Regret It - Chapter 28
‘I’m embarrassed.’
And because Yuri did not stop crying, they had no choice but to return home. She sighed and cried again.
Larkshid teased her and said, ‘If you don’t like it, tell me now.’
Tired from crying, Yuri fell asleep in the carriage on the way home.
At dawn, Yuri woke up and rubbed her eyes several times. She seemed to have a subtle narrower vision than usual. It was clear that her eyes were swollen. She was very embarrassed, but at the same time happy.
‘It was the first time I knew that tears come out even when you’re happy.’
Her tears of sorrow had stopped, but tears of joy did not stop. Whenever she thought of that moment, she was overwhelmed, and Yuri felt like she was about to cry.
Yuri looked at the clock. The clock with a cute squirrel on it pointed to 1 am. It was clear that Larkshid was probably busy with other things.
‘He really, really loves me.’
Yuri bit her lip. She felt that she wanted to do a lot for him. In her pajamas, she slowly made her way to his office.
All the servants had gone to sleep, and there was no one in the hallway. The sound of Yuri opening the door echoed through the hallway.
‘Lark works until this time…’
Yuri immediately thought of Aslan. In retrospect, her own father, Aslan, also always used to work until dawn. Was that the responsibility of a person who has something to protect? It was too heavy for Yuri to understand.
“How did you get things done…?”
Yuri was startled by Larkshid’s angry voice, the first time she had ever heard it, and Yuri backed away.
“I’m sorry. I think I made a mistake.”
“D*mn it…”
Larkshid soon grabbed his left eye. Black blood began to flow from his eyes. It looked like he was holding back the pain. He stumbled for a moment, as if he couldn’t even breathe because of the pain, and then sat down in his chair.
“Master, should I call the priest?”
“No. Don’t make a fuss, just do your job right.”
Others didn’t know, but Yuri knew it the moment she saw it. That Larkshid suffered from the curse.
She didn’t know what was so tangled up, but unpleasant red threads seemed to wriggle inside him.
‘…I can’t explain what this is.’
She could see the threads swaying like a waving water surface. If she said she saw anything like this, he would definitely take Yuri to the hospital.
‘All the nightmares back then….’
She had many dreams of Larkshid dying. Yuri bowed her head. The red threads trapped in Larkshid’s body looked like they were about to explode.
‘Very ominous.’
Just like a jar full of water, it seemed that even one more drop would overflow. Involuntarily, Yuri stepped backwards and returned to her bedroom. Her hands trembled. She couldn’t calm down at all.
‘By the way, I don’t have the ability.’
If Yuri inherited the curse in the Slevard’s family, she did not have the power she should have. So, at first she thought that someone else must have inherited the ability as well. She thought that she might not have the power because she lacked it.
Slevard’s power was slightly different from generation to generation. So Yuri thought she had not yet found her ability. But if it wasn’t that, the ability that Yuri would have inherited was only used in special circumstances.
‘Darkness……’
She soon put her hands together, and slowly summoned her curse. A tingling pain came over her, as if her heart was being strained.
“Darkness….”
“It’s been a while, sweetheart.”
From her shadow, Darkness began to seep out. The dark voice was still sweet. Yuri said to it in a hazy voice.
“Darkness, I saw a future where Larkshid Erentail would die.”
“I see.”
“……No, aren’t you surprised?”
At the Darkness’s nonchalant attitude, Yuri bit her lip. Darkness was not to be trusted. As evidence of that, she was constantly dizzy. She felt her mind go blank.
‘I didn’t notice it back then…’
Now it was different. Her thoughts of Larkshid were slowly disappearing from her mind. Like a misty swamp, she couldn’t think of anything.
“…is this my power?”
“Sweetie, don’t you know yourself better?”
The power to see the future of those who would soon die. Yuri exhaled her breath slowly. It was rather fortunate. If it were possible to help Larkshid escape his death, this power was a vision.
“Darkness, I have a favor to ask.”
“I don’t think the bet is over yet?”
“Well, you know I can win.”
Come to think of it, the power of the North has been said to be the ability to handle ice since ancient times. However, Larkshid’s power was to control the beast form.
‘That was it.’
The cost of his power would have been the destruction of Larkshid himself. Pain was just the side effects.
Yuri wanted to do something small for him. She wanted to get rid of his pain as quickly as possible.
She didn’t want to see a single second of his painful moment.
She couldn’t wait forever to win the bet. If she didn’t fix it right away, Larkshid’s life was in danger.
“Please fix him.”
“Oh….”
“I know his curse is breaking.”
The Darkness breathed out lightly, and Yuri’s body seemed to freeze. But Yuri did not back down. If she retreated, Larkshid would die.
“Right now… I need your help.”
“Baby. You didn’t even win my bet.”
At first, it was clear that Darkness had no intention of letting Yuri win this bet. From the beginning, Larkshid would die and Yuri would lose the bet. It was clear that Yuri’s power had twisted that fate.
“Why should I help you?”
From the beginning of the proposal, Darkness was wishing for Yuri’s misfortune. Yuri bit her lip.
“…Even after the torch is lit, my, my life force continues to burn out.”
Each time, her vitality was running out. Yuri herself knew this. Darkness had never talked about it once.
‘The Darkness eats away at my vitality and is parasitic on my body.’
In the book Herian gave her, there was not even a single mention of that. For some reason, Yuri didn’t know, but the darkness didn’t stick to Yuri’s body properly. That, she felt it herself.
‘I don’t know for what reason..… I’m a little different from the other heirs.’
Was it because of the years she spent in the temple, or was it some other reason? Yuri bit her lip.
Saving Larkshid was the top priority. If the Darkness was parasitic on her body, it would have been possible to modify the contents of the bet.
“I, I am not asking for anything else.
“Really?”
“If only you could heal him… .”
Yuri’s words were blurred. She felt as if she was falling into deep water from her feet. Her teeth chattered, and her body began to tremble. Still, she tried not to be afraid.
“It’s an interesting story.”
“……then”
“Baby. His death is inevitable, and it’s the price he pays for his power.”
Yuri had never heard of such a story. Even Larkshid never told her about it.
Now, this issue was not important. Yuri calmly waited for Darkness’s next words.
“I can’t get rid of death.”
“But…it’s possible to twist it a little.”
Darkness soon spoke in a friendly voice. There were times when Yuri liked this friendly voice. But now she couldn’t. From the moment she realized that that friendly voice was meant to deceive her, it meant nothing.
It was a curse that has been passed down on Slevard for a thousand years. Nothing like this could have been impossible.
“Okay. Instead of joining his curse together, I will give you his curse.”
“……Then he…”
“He will no longer be in danger. From now on, you will take over the role.”
“…”
“You will bear the price for him, the cause and effect.”
Yuri looked at the Darkness’s face. The Darkness had no face, but she felt it. The Darkness was grinning cruelly.
“Well, will you say yes?”
But it didn’t matter. All she had left was Larkshid. She’d rather die than lose Larkshid. Yuri answered with a smile.
“Yes, good…”
“But, this would be a bet that only favors you.”
Darkness seemed to be contemplating something. Soon, the Darkness smiled slowly and whispered to Yuri.
She felt the air warm.
“Let’s make a bigger bet.”
The fire in the fireplace vibrated loudly.
“Yuri, I’ll give you a chance.”
“No, whatever… is fine.”
“It looks like you really love him…… .”
“Yes….”
“Take his heart. If he truly loves you, then that’s your victory.”
Suddenly, Yuri’s body trembled. Was it really okay to bet? Larkshid had to love her.
The Darkness gently patted Yuri’s back.
“The moment you give up on him, I’ll take your fate and future, all of it.”
Tack, Tack. The firewood was bouncing but Yuri didn’t budge.
As if she was very lovely, Darkness smiled cunningly and stroked her hair.
“Then, try your best. Baby.”
