Everyone reconvened in the drawing hall on the ground floor, the last area left for exploration. “…This side leads directly to the garden. Over there are the guest rooms…”
Lu Lian continued to talk while Ming Rusheng before he had to step away to take a call. As he wrapped up the conversation and turned, something caught his eye.
In the hallway, across the drawing room, a couple was engaged in an intimate embrace, the woman pressed against the wall, their lips locked in a passionate kiss. Ming Rusheng’s gaze narrowed.
The man noticed him but seemed unperturbed, continuing to kiss as if oblivious to Ming Rusheng’s presence, while the woman appeared uncomfortable, almost suffocating.
“Have you not caused enough trouble for my sister in your own home? Must you continue to harass her here as well?” Ming Rusheng’s voice rang out boldly.
Hearing the familiar voice, Ming Lan pushed against Wen Zac’s chest, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Though she tried to pull away, he held her close, wrapping his arms around her protectively.
Giving up, Ming Lan buried her face against his chest, embarrassed, not daring to turn to face her brother.
Lu Lian and the others, who were on their way to this part of the house, paused upon hearing Ming Rusheng’s comment, their curiosity piqued as they approached to see what was happening.
“It’s your fault for inviting us here when we were enjoying our honeymoon period. I couldn’t refuse when your sister insisted on us coming,” replied Wen Zac, as if absolving himself of any wrongdoing and continued, “suddenly showing affection for your own sister, Rushing? Haven’t you been causing trouble for someone else’s sister who is not your wife?” He glanced at everyone present. “Come to think of it, everyone is troubling someone’s sister here,” he added, eyeing Noah and Jake. “Or someone’s brother.”
Lu Lian swiftly interjected, mindful of her brothers potentially siding with Wen Zac. “Well, Brother Zac, I don’t mind being ‘troubled’ by Rusheng. And my brother doesn’t seem to mind either. We are married now?”
“Aren’t I and and Lan Lan as well?” When Zac asked and then looked at displeased Ming Rusheng, “See, no one minds it. And here you are, playing the righteous brother, Rusheng. You could ask your sister if she doesn’t enjoy being troubled by me.”
Ming Lan sighed and lightly slapped Wen Zac on the chest. “Can you stop now?”
“Your brother started it. It’d be better if you assured him that you enjoy the ‘trouble,'” Wen Zac persisted.
Before Ming Rusheng could respond, Lu Lian intervened again. “Brother Zac, there’s a guest room at the end of the hallway. You can use it,” she said, gently tugging Ming Rusheng’s hand, who appeared displeased, as if his sister were being cornered by a hungry wolf. “Let them enjoy themselves, alright?”
Ming Rusheng glared at Wen Zac and talked to his sister. “Don’t be late for dinner, Lanlan,” and walked away.
The others could only smile, knowing there was little that could truly displease Ming Rusheng. They followed suit, leaving the hallway and making their way to the drawing room.
Lu Feng chuckled. “Ming Rusheng, now you understand how we feel when we see our sweet sister with you,” he said, glancing at Lu Lijun, who nodded in agreement and said, “I’ll have to treat Brother Zac later, for letting someone taste their own medicine.”
Lu Lian frowned at her brothers’ teasing of her husband. “Lu Lijun, remember, the woman you tease is also someone’s sister.”
Jiang Yang chimed in, his tone light. “Well, I’m glad my sister is being troubled by someone. I couldn’t bear to see her lonely for so long.” He gave Lu Lijun a grateful look. “Thanks, man.”
Lu Lijun accepted it with curt nod while Jiang Yuyan shot Jiang Yang a disapproving glare, but he paid it no mind.
“Brother Yang would say it now as he got someone in trouble and would not like her brother to meddle in,” Lu Lian remarked, glancing at Lu Feng. It was common knowledge that Lu Feng considered Nicky as his sister and was protective of her.
Lu Feng fixed his gaze on Jiang Yang. “You’d better treat her well, or I’ll whisk her away from this city.”
“Have I ever mistreated her?” Jiang Yang countered, turning to Nicky. “Have I?”
She shook her head, but remained silent.
Jiang Yang turned back to Lu Feng. “See?”
“Stay away from her unless you’re serious about marrying her,” Lu Feng warned.
“Hey, I do plan to marry her,” Jiang Yang clarified, looking at Nicky, who offered no response to support him.
Lu Feng glanced at the quiet Nicky. “I’ll find a better match for you. Come with me to my city. I’ve already got a few good prospects lined up.”
Nicky was taken aback. What had gotten into her brother all of a sudden? Was he planning to arrange her marriage?
“Lu Feng?” Jiang Yang exclaimed, clearly surprised by his friend’s sudden announcement.
“I’m talking to my sister. If she doesn’t want to marry you, then don’t pressure her into dating you,” Lu Feng’s tone was firm, indicating he wouldn’t back down. “I’ve already spoken to her mother about it.”
“What the…” Jiang Yang felt like cursing his friend. “You’re jumping the gun, Lu Feng.”
“And what can you do about it?” Lu Feng raised an eyebrow. “It’s settled. Nicky will come with me.”
“I… don’t want to,” Nicky finally spoke, her gaze shifting hesitantly to Lu Feng.
“You don’t want to marry him?” Lu Feng clarified.
“I mean, I don’t want to come with you to meet other men,” Nicky replied.
“Then what do you want?” Lu Feng’s expression and tone remained serious. “As your brother, it’s my duty to find a better man for you.”
She gulped nervously. “I want to be with him,” she confessed, stealing a glance at the man sitting next to her.
Lu Feng didn’t soften his stance and continued, “You should reconsider. I don’t believe that Jiang Yang is best choice for you.”
“Lu Feng…” Jiang Yang attempted to interject, but Lu Feng raised his hand. “Keep quiet. Don’t try to sway her decision.”
Jiang Yang fell silent, respecting Nicky’s autonomy in the matter.
“I’m certain. I want to be with him,” Nicky affirmed, meeting Lu Feng’s steely gaze head-on.
The way he looked at this moment, it gave her the feeling of having that brother who was dead serious and would not hesitate to take her away and marry her off to any man of his own liking. Just as Jiang Yang felt relieved to know Nicky had chosen him, he heard Lu Feng again. “I’ll give you some time to reconsider. By my next visit, I expect a decision,” Lu Feng stated, his disappointment evident in his tone.
“I understand,” Nicky replied, though she felt a pang of defiance.
“During this time, maintain a respectful distance from Jiang Yang. You are an adult to understand what I mean” Lu Feng’s tone carried the weight of authority, akin to a strict father dictating his daughter’s conduct.
“Lu Feng, the distance you’re asking her to maintain, we crossed that ten years ago,” Jiang Yang interjected, his irritation evident.
“That was in the past. Now she’s starting on a new chapter, and I don’t want her to be swayed by you. It’s time for her to settle down and start a family. I expect her to take a serious decision and even better if she follows what I expect her to,” Lu Feng stated firmly, “and you Jiang Yang, do not try to cross line with my sister until she takes the decision. If she decided to marry someone else, do not even think about coming closer to her.”
Jiang Yang scowled. “You may act like an overbearing brother, but I know she’ll choose to be with me.”
“We’ll see,” Lu Feng responded, maintaining his cold demeanor.
