Young Master in the Apocalypse - Chapter 80
On its journey across the Antarctic, a gust of cold breezy wind was blowing in the direction of icebreaker ship Dikson. The ship was making its way northward while breaking through the thick ice.
Viktor, along with Jessie, was standing on top of the deck. Both of them were looking out over the frozen sea in a radius as far as their eyes could see. Viktor was taken aback as he observed the ice that was cracking and splitting in two before his eyes.
Once they had been traveling for some time, it seemed like this direction was familiar to Viktor. He could easily recognize it as he became aware of where they were going to head and said,
“Ok, if we are going north toward this way, I am assuming we are on our way to Kola Power Plant?”
“Bingo! You certainly know your way around Russia.”
“How fast is this ship.. 15, 20 miles an hour?”
“Yes, you are right again!” Said the girl in a cheerful manner.
“I like relaxing travel but not today, is there any way to make it go any faster? What kind of engine do you have?” Viktor asked once again.
Surprisingly, the girl was able to provide a thorough explanation of the ship in great detail. She was an exceptionally smart young lady and must be a bookworm if she was familiar with the machine of a ship that had been in service for 30 years.
In terms of speed, the ship itself was capable of going two times its current speed, however, it looked like the current situation did not seem to be conducive to this matter. The sea was full of thick ice, and the strength of the ship’s hull also made it hard to go any faster than was necessary.
“The thickness of white sea is less than one meter, which is the maximum thickness that this ship can break. For the ocean, however, we will need one of the nuclear engine ships with more power and a stronger hull,” the beautiful young lady went on to explain.
“So why don’t you take one of those ships instead?” Viktor inquired.
“Ohh come on… do you know that it takes a painstaking amount of time to make this smaller ship function properly with all the EMP happening on D-Day? Besides, the majority of the nuclear engine ships were stranded on the ocean at the time when it happened.”
Viktor suddenly reminded how reliant his country had become on nuclear technology. Six nuclear-powered icebreakers were among the country’s total of 70 available vessels. In addition, the country had more than three dozen nuclear power plants, which were dispersed all around the motherland.
It was undoubtedly more convenient to go by ship rather than by land, as it would have taken twice as long to travel around the island. However, he was perplexed as to why they were compelled to travel by such a slow-moving ship once more. He was thinking to himself that if Jessie could make a ship such as this work, why could not they just go by car through the ice?
Almost immediately after Viktor asked the question, something suddenly caught Jessie’s attention. She pointed toward a certain hole that was a considerable distance away and at the same time, Viktor turned to look in the direction pointed by Jessie just now.
“There is your answer,” she said.
At first glance, it looked to be a seemingly normal-looking hole. However, Viktor, who had been paying attention to the situation, noticed that there was something jumping out of the hole from the water a few moments later. It was recognized as a bunch of one meter tall black and white creatures.
[Mutated penguin – level 27]
[Battle Power 22]
However, despite the fact that there were a few of them, the mutated penguins swiftly retreated down the hole as soon as the huge ship got close enough to see them coming. It seemed that they tried to stay away from anything that was within a short distance from them.
“Don’t be fooled by their cute looks. Those things are troublesome and they come in numbers,”
Jessie was talking casually about the penguin. Suddenly, she was startled when she saw one particularly different penguin that appeared to be entirely covered in white skin, and she immediately tell Viktor that this was the type of penguin that needed to be watched out for.
“Now that one was a little troublesome.”
The Djinn quickly jumped into action to assist Viktor in getting the information he needed as soon as Jessie finished her sentence.
[Mutated Ashen penguin – stage 2 [level 35]
[Battle Power 32]
The mutated ashen penguin, was categorized as a stage two creature. This particular stage two beast was not afraid of the ship, and quickly charged towards the ship without hesitation.
When Viktor was still checking on the creature. Jessie, on the other hand, had already made her way over to the harpoon gun attached at the front of the ship and was ready to fire it.
“Steady… steady…” she said as she aimed and took her time, and finally, when the creature was only ten meters away, she fired the metal harpoon at it.
Splattt!!
She only needed one shot to bring down the creature because she was able to hit the creature with pinpoint accuracy.
“Ooo. I am sorry, Mr Penguin,” she said as she pulled the harpoon back with the pedal.
“This one has a beak which is strong enough to break any wood or metal. We can avoid the little one, but not this white one,” she explained.
The stage two penguins were the only thing they needed to be concerned about. With this Viktor and Jessie worked together to deal with the situation.
Viktor’s would ensure to take care of any of these stage two creatures that approached them
When it comes to harpooning, it would be Jessie who was going to be in charge, and Viktor would take care of the one that Jessie had missed, or if there were more than one of them.
Roman and his crew, on the other hand, would be in charge of covering the one approaching from the side and the back.
Despite the fact that dozens of these creatures came to attack the ship, it still only took them 8 hours to travel 200 miles across the white sea, the group managed to reach the shore as planned just two hours before dark.
