- Chapter 2 -Lets Jet!
Twilight was falling over the great city of Heartland, the bright lights of the city filled the darkening sky with a rainbow of colour from the futurist buildings that dominated its landscape. Atop the roof of a small and more old-fashioned building lay a young boy watching the stars above.
He had black and red spiked hair with red eyes, wearing a red vest with a white hood and white pants. Around his neck hung a golden key, his name is Yuma Tsukumo.
Floating in the air beside him, not that many could see him even if they tried to, was what many would consider a ghost at first glance. He had a transparent blue body and hair pointed into a kind of Mohawk. He wore no kind of clothes but his body was decorated with numerous green markings and blue jewels. His left eye was golden and his right was a clear white.
He was talking to the boy.
“Yuma you should spend more time preparing, the day after tomorrow is the start of the WDC Preliminaries. Remember I will not help you duel unless you are facing a Numbers holder.”
“Ah shut it Astral, I can duel just fine on my own you know. Tomorrow I’m going to Jet! Just you watch!”
He was not a ghost, but a visitor from another world. A being of energy who called himself Astral.
“My observations of your duelling strategies do not support your optimism. Fortunately my mission does not require me to ȧssist you in winning this contest. What is important to me is regaining the Numbers and my lost memories.”
“Why you…! What that?”
Looking up Yuma exclaimed as he pointed out a falling star, it was burning red with an ominous energy. Like a falling fireball it plunged downwards towards the city. It was falling practically down upon the pair.
In the end it didn’t land on the house, but it did crash into a nearby park.
“Whoa! That landed near here. Come on Astral, Lets Jet!”
Yuma wasn’t going to miss out on whatever excitement was going on, with an athletic leap he was off. Astral followed, floating behind him as they rushed to the scene. He had felt a strange energy from that falling star, it could be important.
The two of them reach the park before anyone else arrived, perhaps nobody else had seen it? Or if they did, they either didn’t care to investigate or were still on their way. In the middle of a clearing surrounded by trees and planted bushes a crater had been ploughed into the ground, steam was rising from the hot earth but strangely there was no sign of burning or scorch marks.
The clearing was dark, the trees blocking much of the city’s light. It gave the place a spooky atmosphere.
“Careful Yuma. We know not what we are dealing with.”
Astral gave Yuma a look.
“Hey, you’re the one like a ghost no one can see or touch.”
“…Very well.”
Astra floated over the crater and looked down. His eyes widened in shock.
“Yuma! Hurry.”
“What?!”
“There is a man down here.”
—
Drake slowly woke up from the most bizarre dream. He was aching all over and his skin felt tight, like it was one size too small for him. Drake opened his eyes to an unfamiliar celling.
“Look he’s awake!”
Who?
Turning his head to the voice Drake was shocked to see two figures. Astral and Yuma. They were no strangers to Drake, although they had never met before. Was before not a dream then? Drake pulled aside the bedcovers to examine his left arm, on it was a fresh bright tattoo like picture of a black dragon, its fangs bȧrėd, wings spread out.
It wasn’t a dream.
His thoughts were interrupted as Yuma tossed the bedcover back over him.
“Hey!!”
It was at this point Drake realised he was nȧkėd…
He felt himself turning red in embarrassment.
“Wait here, my sister is getting you some clothes.”
“So… You alright?”
“Uh Yeah, so what happened?”
“You don’t remember?”
Drake saw that Astral was watching him closely.
“Not really.”
“Do you know your name?”
“I am not an amnesiac, I just don’t know exactly how I got here. The names Drake by the way, you?”
“Yuma, this is my house, I carried you back last night after…”
“After what?”
Ouch, talk about making an entrance, wait…
“…Naked?”
Yuma nodded his head.
Someone was going to get a beating the next time Drake saw them. Of all the embarrassing methods to enter this world. His face was turning red again.
“Yuma!”
A young lady called from outside, before entering the room, a pile of clothes in her hands. Seeing Drake awake she said.
“Oh your awake, I hope my brother hasn’t been bothering you. Here these are for you.”
“Thank you I am fine, Miss?”
“Akari Tsukumo, come on Yuma, let him get changed.”
She abruptly dragged Yuma out of the room by his ear.
“And are you staying to watch?” Drake asked Astral, looking him in the eyes.
“You can see me?” Astral was shocked, only a handful of humans had the ability to see him. This only further reinforced his opinion that this man that fell from the skies was strange and potentially dangerous.
“And hear you. Now do you mind? I know the two of you must have already seen everything I have, but I would like to at least keep the illusion of my dignity being intact.”
“Who are you?”
“Later, now make like a ghost and vanish.”
—
Later the four of them gather around the dinning table as Yuma’s Grandmother severed them eggs and toast. The morning sunlight was bright and the clock on the mantle read 7:37.
Akari, being the investigative reporter that she was had already begun to grill Drake about who he was and how her brother had found him nȧkėd in the park.
“Ha, so you are like an alien or something, come on pull the other one, don’t think you can pull a fast one on me, I am a reporter and not so gullible, unlike my idiot brother here.”
“Kari!”
“How much do you know about the multiverse theory.” Drakes answer was a lot of blank stares from everyone.
“Put simply there exist multiple version of the world, of all worlds, each occupying the same space but each on a different ‘layer’ of reality. These worlds can be almost identical or vastly different from each other. Some believe that almost any world imaginable exists somewhere at some point in time in an infinite multiverse.”
“So to answer your question, I am a human, and I am from earth. But I am not from this earth. If that makes me an alien or not is up to you.”
“Prove it.” She demanded.
“How?” Drake thought she was asking a bit much, just how did one prove this? It wasn’t like he had green blood or something.
“Well If you can’t then I just think you are crazy then, so you can finish your meal and leave.”
“And what do I do about money, lodgings, ID?” Drake asked.
“That’s your problem.”
“And if I can pay?”
“You just said you had no money.”
“I don’t, but I have these.” Drake tossed out his hand across the table, spilling out an ȧssortment of gems and precious stones. Diamonds, rubies, emeralds and others.
“Wow! Where did you get these?!”
Like all women, Akari was interested in jewels and as a reporter was knowledge enough to know these jewels, if real, would be worth a fortune.
“Don’t ask.”
Yuma whispered to Astral “Where was he keeping these? He didn’t have anything on him.”
“I do not know, perhaps…”
“Don’t ask!” Drake snapped. It wasn’t what they were thinking, it was just a simple warped storage space connected to a small diamond tattoo on the back of his right hand, similar in some ways to the space in Yuma’s Golden Key, but much smaller. It was only about a square foot.
Which was why it was mostly filled with gems. Currencies changed across worlds, but hopefully the value of such precious stones did not. And for a volume to price ratio gems were a better option than pure metals like gold and silver in Drakes opinion.
“Are these legit? If you’re a thief or something I’m warning you!”
“Absolutely legit, perform any checks you want. Have them apprised, check with the police if you want. I need ID, cash and I wonder if you have a spare room I can rent.”
“Huh, why?”
“I like the atmosphere here.”
—
It took a couple of hours for Drake to convince Akari to let him stay. He didn’t know if she believed his story or not, but he had decided to be honest, or at least as honest as he could be in the circumstances. He didn’t tell them that he knew of other versions of them, that would just be creepy. Now he had to explain himself to a more important audience. Astral.
They were outside beneath some trees in the garden, Yuma, Astral and Drake.
“So like I said inside, I am from a different version of this world, a different dimension if you will, unlike you Astral who I can tell actually comes from another world of this dimension.”
“Wow really! So cool!”
“And your purpose in traveling here?” Unlike Yuma, Astral was able to keep his calm.
“I am hunting someone.” Drake replied.
There was a serious silence.
“Who? And why?” Astral asked.
“Who I don’t know, and why… its because if I don’t then they may well destroy this world and many others.”
“Wha! Destroy the world! How? Why?”
“Calm down Yuma, I am sure Drake will explain himself.” Astra had a serious look in his eye.
“I will, but first. How about a duel? Just me against you Yuma.”
“Hu? You duel? But why?”
“I need to judge how strong you are. Or else what I tell you will only bring you harm.”
“Fine! I’m not scared, lets duel!”
“Yuma! Are you there?” Akari’s voice rang out from the house, Yuma’s face twisted.
“Err but not here, come on let’s move to the park.”
Drake couldn’t help but laugh at Yuma. Seems like this worlds Akari didn’t approve of duelling either. The three of them snuck out to the park before it was too late. Not that Astral had to sneak of course.
“If we’re duelling, then where’s you deck and duel disk?”
“Right here!”
“Fascinating” Astral remarked.
The dragon tattoo on Drakes arm began to glow in a purple light before morphing out, bending and stretching into the shape of a black and grey draconic duel disk and Drake removed his deck from his storage space. Around his left eye formed a dark purple Duel Gazer tattoo of roaring dragon.
Drake slammed his deck into his duel disk. As Yuma activated his own duel disk and duel gazer.
“Duel!”
“Lets Jet!”
[Turn 1 – Drake LP:4000 Hand:5, Yuma LP:4000 Hand:5]
“Guests privileges, I go first. I draw. I activate the spell card by discarding a level 8 monster from my hand I can draw two more cards.”
“Next I set a monster face down and one more card face down. I end my turn, your move Yuma.”
[Turn 2 – Yuma LP:4000 Hand:5, Drake LP:4000 Hand:4]
“My turn, I draw!”
“Careful Yuma this is no ordinary opponent.”
“I know Astral, but I am going to put this duel into high gear. I summon and thanks to its special ability I can then special summon in attack mode.”
[Goblindbergh – Lv4 ATK:1400/DEF:0, Gogogo Golem – Lv4 ATK:1800/DEF:1500]
A goblin in a propeller plane and a pile of rocks, but with both being level 4 Drake could guess where this was going. The speciality summoning method of this world.
“Because I special summoned a monster with its ability Goblindbergh now switches to defence mode but that won’t matter, because next I use my level 4 Goblindbergh and my level 4 Golem to build the overlay network and XYZ summon rank 4 !”
[Gagaga Samurai – Rank 4 ATK:1900/DEF:1600 OU:2]
A swirling black vortex appeared on the ground, a spiral universe in miniature. Yuma’s two monsters transformed into streaks of light and plunged into the centre of the vortex. Then from the vortex rose a dark clothed swordsman wielding twin katana, two stars of light orbiting his body.
Drake couldn’t help but frown, looking between Yuma and Astral, he wasn’t using his Number Cards? He had been expecting to see Utopia. Perhaps he had been misunderstood when he asked to duel Yuma alone. Well if Yuma wasn’t giving it his all Drake guessed he could hold back a little for fairness sake. But just a little.
“By using one overlay unit my Samurai activates it special ability. Now a Gagaga monster I control can attack twice this turn!”
[Gagaga Samurai – OU:2 > 1]
Gagaga Samurai slashed one of the stars of light, the representation of the monster available overlay units, in half with a swing of its sword.
“Now Gagaga Samurai attack Drakes face down card!”
The face down card was sliced in half, revealing a large white stone like egg.
“You destroyed my ”
[White Stone of Ancients – Lv1 ATK:600/DEF:500]
[GS ATK:1900 > WSA DEF:500]
“Now Gagaga Samurai, attack Drakes life points directly!”
[GS ATK:1900 – Drake LP > 2100]
A sword slashed down at Drake, the augmented reality was so realistic that for a moment he thought he was being sliced by a real sword and stumbled back a pace.
“I set two cards face down and end my turn. Not bad for my first turn right Drake?”
“Do not celebrate to soon Yuma.”
“You should listen to Astral, for you have fallen for my trap. I activate the effect of my White Stone of Ancients, at the end of a turn when this card is sent to the graveyard I can special summon a Blue-Eyes monster from my deck, so I special summon in attack position my mighty !”
[Blue-Eyes White Dragon – Lv8 ATK:3000/DEF:2500]
His great white scaled dragon let loose a resounding roar, declaring his dominance to this new world.
“What! What kind of beast is that? Its like Kites Galaxy-Eyes!”
“Such power. Be careful Yuma!” Astral warned.
“This Yuma is my most faithful monster, the legendary beast of destruction, the Blue-Eyes White Dragon. And its my turn now. Get ready!”
Yuma couldn’t help but to feel excited. His heart pounding, blood boiling.
“Bring it on Drake! I’m Gonna Jet!”
