Yu-Gi-Oh! ZD: Rise Of The Dragons (A Yu-Gi-Oh! Fanfiction) - Chapter 52

“Sir, we have a development.” Umbral informed his king who in a rare display of independence was personally selecting refreshments for himself from a bar in the corner of the room. He was pleased having just watched Shark acquire both a code fragment and a new Number card, a show far more enjoyable than Kites victory over Alice earlier.

“Oh?” he queried in distraction while rummaging through the fridge.

“Black and Silver have engaged the Dragon.”

“Oh…” The Orichalcos King said, suddenly far more interested in the projection of the scrying mirror than he was a moment ago.

With a thought the image stabilised and focused on his Generals in their duel against Drake. He was just in time to witness Drakes Starlight Dragon appear and blast three of his Generals monsters to pieces.

“Who is the fourth wheel?” He asked his spymaster. The image on the mirror was unclear and constantly warping, a result of interference from the powerful Shadow magic that had been summoned, but it was clear enough to see that there were four duellists present in this battle royal.

He hoped it was just some unknown grunt of the Order trying to gain favour or fame.

“His name is Nistro, second Captain of the Black Elite.” Umbral replied while bringing up a full file on the computer display for his king, but he was ignored.

“This can’t be good…” the Orichalcos King mumbled. It was like a premonition, he just felt that when it came to Drake Atlas something always seemed to go wrong. He felt a headache coming on, if Wyvern and Hal together still lost to Drake then he could only order the final option.

*Beep* *Beep* *Beep*

“Yes?” Umbral answered the call. It had better be important, his King was obviously not in a good mood. A minute later his expression had change.

“Sir… I think this is important.”

It was Wyverns turn, on her field was just a lone Red-Eyes Black Dragon. Hal the Silver General still had a face down together with a Cyber Dragon and Cyber Dragon Herz, while Nistro also had a face down together with his Heroic Champion Kusanagi. And finally Drake who had had just finished his turn had his Blue-Eyes Starlight Dragon and a facedown.

[Turn 5 – W LP:3000/H:4, N LP:4000/H:3, H LP:3000/H:1, D LP:4000/H:2]

“You’re in fine form today aren’t you Atlas. But today you will fall! I draw.”

Wyvern was feeling unhappy, if she had been forced to face Drake alone just what kind of situation would she find herself in now. Even with Hals unwanted help they might have difficulties taking on Drake, and with that fool Nistro to watch out for too…

She had just lost two of her three precious black dragons to the punishing ȧssault of Drakes monsters abilities and her fellow General Hal was no better, having been forced to split apart his ace Cyber End Dragon. To top things off that annoying bug Nistro’s Heroic Champion could negate and destroy their trap cards up to two more times. It was time to take her game up a notch.

“First I will play <Monster Reborn> to bring back my Red-Eyes Black Dragon.”

[Red-Eye Black Dragon – Lv7 ATK:2400/DEF:2000]

Now two Red-Eyes stood side by side, twin dark dragons under a cruel mistress. Behind them the shadows seemed to swell, growing in strength. Perhaps this was because of the four duellists here only Wyvern was a true master of the Shadow magics that the two New Order Generals had summoned.

“But it won’t stay around for long, now with my two Red-Eyes Black Dragons I build the Overlay Network. Appear Dark dragon that scorches the earth, burn my foes with your absolute might, I Xyz Summon! The <Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon>!”

Wyverns two Red-Eyes Black Dragons plunged backwards, falling into the roiling mass of shadow energy that began to spin, a vortex forming from the black mass. From it stepped out the figure of her new Xyz monster. Black steel scales armoured the dragon from the flaming tip of its spiky tail to its razor sharp jaws. Burning flames roared from multiple exhaust points on its body and wings.

“And you should know that so long as my dragon has any Overlay Units, each time an opponent activates a card or effect, my dragon will automatically punish them with 500 points of damage.” Wyvern gleefully added.

She could practically envision the burning purgatory her dragon would cover this field with.

“Idiot! What about me!” Hal complained. In a battle royal like this he was technically also an opponent, meaning that this dragons effect would equally work against him as well.

“Didn’t you complain the last time that I didn’t use my full strength? Just deal with it like the man you claim to be.” Wyvern replied. Hal liked to talk big to try and impress her, so now it was time for him to show her he could take the heat.

“You witch!!” Hal complained.

“Next I will use one of my dragons Overlay Units to bring back my Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon to the field in attack mode, then I will use my normal summon this turn for it to gain its Gemini effect.”

[Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon – OU:2 > 1]

[Red-Eye Black Flare Dragon – Lv7 ATK:2400/DEF:2000]

Using one of its orbiting Overlay Units the wicked black dragon tore open a flaming pit in the floor, from which flew out the revived black dragon. As it was re-summoned crimson flares ignited around its wings and danced across its scales.

Unfortunately for Wyvern neither Drakes Starlight Dragon nor Nistros Heroic Champion which both had 3000 ATK points, were weak enough to battle with at this time, even Wyverns Flare Dragon ability was useless as its effect activated at the end of the battle phase, meaning her dragon had to attack and survive the battle for the effect to trigger.

“I set a face down and end my turn.”

[Turn 6 – N LP:4000/H:3, H LP:3000/H:1, D LP:4000/H:2, W LP:3000/H:3]

“Alright! Its back to me, let’s go! I draw!” Nistro declared with gusto. Eager to commence with the pay back these New Order dogs deserved.

“Lets see, since you already know I have him why not get a proper introduction. I summon <Heroic Challenger – Night Watchman>.”

Nistro’s monster held aloft its burning lantern, the shadow of its caped figure lost against those of black wall it stood in front of. It certainly wasn’t the strongest monster Drake had seen, but while he was not overly familiar with Nistro’s Heroic cards, he would not make the mistake of under estimating the hot tempered duellist.

“Even if you have a trap card my Kusanagi can deal with it, so I will attack your Flare Metal Dragon with my Heroic Champion!”

“You had better pay me back Wyvern, I activate the quick spell <Ego Boost> this gives a monster of my choice 1000 extra attack until the end of the battle phase. And because it’s a spell card your Kusanagi’s effect cannot be used.” Said Hal as he activated his last face down.

[Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon – ATK:2800 > 3800]

“Argh!” Hal cried as he was suddenly pelted with a hail of burning coals.

[Hal LP > 2500]

Unfortunately although Hal was actually helping the black dragon, bulking up its power before Nistro’s Champion could strike, the cruel beast didn’t care in the slightest and struck him for 500 damage because Hal had activated a card effect.

“Oh no!” Nistro exclaimed as the super powered dragon warded off his Kusanagi’s blazing blade with its armoured scales before it retaliated with a burning stream of hellish flames from its devilish maw. The flames sweeping across the field after incinerating the unfortunate warrior and blasting against Nistro.

[HCK ATK:3000 < REFMD ATK:3800, Nistro LP > 3200]

“Gah, I am not done. Night Watchman attack Cyber Dragon! And thanks to its effect it automatically destroys any defence monster it battles before damage calculation.” Nistro was honestly scared at the flames that had just attacked him, the heat, the burning sensation, the pain. In some ways it remined him of his days in training.

But when Nistro got scared he also got mad, and since Hal had special summoned all his Cyber Dragons back to his field in defence mode that allowed Nistros Night Watchman a chance to shine and with the magic light of its lantern Hal’s Cyber Dragon shattered into pieces, leaving only the weakest Cyber Dragon Herz behind.

*Boom*

“But by activating an effect you now take another 500 damage.” Wyvern rejoiced was her dragon pelting the annoying man with a hail of flaming coals that seared fabric and skin.

[Nistro LP > 2700]

With the end of the battle phase the effects of Ego Boost expired, returning Wyverns dragon to its original attack points.

[Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon – ATK:3800 > 2800]

“I..I.. I set a face down and end my turn.”

Nistro had just suffered a clobbering under the power of the Shadow game. Wyvern and Hal were still alright as they were partially protected by their Shadow Charms, and of course Drake could protect himself with the power of Critias. But Nistro was the odd one out in the group without any true means of magical protection.

“Before that, now that your Moronic champion is out of the way, I activate my Trap <Red-Eyes Fang with Chain> and I equip it to my Flare Metal Dragon.” Wyvern said.

A black chain wrapped around the arms of Wyverns dragon, a dragonic shaped bladed attached to one end hung by her creatures side. This trap had a couple of abilities, including the effect of allowing her dragon to attack twice a turn, but Wyvern had another use in mind for this card.

[Turn 7 – H LP:2500/H:1, D LP:4000/H:2, W LP:3000/H:3, N LP:2700/H:2]

“Finally, now its my chance to shine. Draw.” Hal exclaimed with childish exaggerated movements.

Was this really the style of one of New Orders 5 Generals? Or was it an act to deceive his opponents? Drake didn’t know and Nistro didn’t care.

“I sacrifice Cyber Dragon Hertz to summon my second Cyber Dragon.”

[Cyber Dragon – Lv5 ATK:2100/DEF:1600]

The sliver serpent raised its head high as its emotionless robotic face looked at its prey.

“And as you know when Hertz is sent to the grave I can then add my third Cyber Dragon to my hand…!” Hal continued, before being interrupted by another shower of flame from Wyverns dragon.

[Hal LP > 2000]

“Stupid dragon, you better clear the way for me Wyvern, our king would not be pleased if you cost us this duel.” Hal threatened.

“…Fine, I activate the effect of my trap Fang with Chain. By sending it to the graveyard I can then equip an effect monster on the field to my dragon, transforming its attack and defence to match the equipped monsters. So I will steal away Atlas’s precious Blue-Eyes Starlight Dragon, leaving him wide open for a direct attack. Satisfied Silver?” Wyvern said.

The black chain in her dragons hands lashed out and imprisoned Drakes Blue-Eyes Starlight Dragon, dragging it across the field, it was now like a dog on a leash for Wyverns wicked monster.

[Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon – ATK:2800 > 3000/DEF:2400 > 2500]

Drake promised himself to repay the humiliation that his dragon was now suffering, it was the first card he had created after coming to this world after all, a source of pride for the otherworldly duellist. But apart from a tightening around his eyes and a flash of hostile intent, he otherwise kept his cool.

“Good! Now I activate <Overload Fusion>! By banishing from my field and graveyard my two Cyber Dragons, Cyber Dragon Vier and Cyber Dragon Hertz I can fusion summon <Chimeratech Overdragon> this monsters attack and defence is equal to the number of monsters I used to fusion summon it x800, giving it a total of 3200 attack!” Hal continued.

Hals monster appeared in a swirl of mechanical parts, four distinct heads extending out from its main body, one head for each monster used in its fusion summoning.

[Chimeratech Overdragon – Lv9 ATK:3200/DEF:3200]

Thanks to activating his spell card Hal would take another 500 damage from Wyverns dragon, also Overdragon had its own effect which activated on entering the field destroying any other cards Hal had on the field. Although it did nothing to Hals presently already empty field it was still a card effect activation and would require him to suffer another 500 damage, for a total of 1000.

*Argh*

Hal abandoned his cape that had finally caught fire, tossing it into the shadow wall which consumed it like a bottomless abyss. Fortunately, he still had his armour which was mostly fire proof or he would find himself in a similarly embarrassing situation that Nistro did.

“I won’t lie, this will hurt a lot! Go Chimeratech Overdragon and attack Atlas directly! Evolution Result Burst!” Hal hungerly commanded, eager to inflict some of the same pain he had just suffered on his target.

The Chimeratech Overdragon began to charge its powerful beam attacks in its four mechanised heads. But Drake was not going to let its attack through just like that.

“I activate my trap <Necro Fusion> this lets me banish monsters in my grave to fusion summon a new monster, so by banishing my Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Alternative White Dragon, I fusion summon <Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon>!”

[Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon – Lv10 ATK:3000/DEF:2500]

Drakes two headed white beast imposed itself between its master and the menacing Overdragon.

“Off course by activating a card I will have to take an attack from that Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon as well.” Drake said as the rain of flame struck him, but thanks to the power of Critias he was only thrown back a bit by the impact and otherwise emerged unharmed.

Compared to how pathetic Nistro and Hal looked, one could only think about how unfair the world could be at times.

[Drake LP > 3500]

“Blast!” Hal said as his hydra dragon awaited his next orders.

Hal couldn’t continue his attack on Drake now. Although Overdragon had slightly more attack points than Drakes beast, Twin Burst dragon could not be destroyed by battle. Worse was that it could banish the monsters it battled with, which would leave Hal wide open to a counter attack, so he could only abandon the idea of attacking Drake now.

But even if Drake was safe the same could not be said for Nistro, Hal still felt the need to vent his frustrations.

“Chimeratech Overdragon! Attack Heroic Challenger Night Watchman!”

[CO ATK:3200 > HCNW ATK:1200]

*Bang*

With a mighty blast from one of its heads the cybernetic hydra blasted Nistros warrior to dust, but to Hals surprise Nistro sounded unharmed in the thick smoke. As it cleared a new monster had appeared to take its defeated ally’s place. It stood in golden armour with a red cape, a spear in hand and a great round, red and gold shield.

“I activated the continuous trap <Desperate Tag> when an attack position monster I control is destroyed I can reduce the damage I take to zero and then special summon a level 4 or lower warrior from my hand, so appear <Heroic Challenger – Spartan> in attack mode.” Nistro explained.

But even with Nistro’s trap he could not escape the retaliation of Wyverns Black Flare Metal Dragon.

“Fool, my Overdragon can attack a number of monsters equal to the number of monsters I used to fusion summon it, so now I attack your Spartan.” Hal continued his ȧssault.

“I activate <Pinpoint Guard> this revives my Heroic Challenger Assault Halberd in my grave in defence mode and it cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects.” Nistro said summoning back one of his previously lost monster.

A new rain of flame smashed into him from Wyverns dragon, its mistress gleeful of just how much destruction and chaos her beast had inflicted on these two men who annoyed her so much.

[Nistro LP > 1700]

“So what? My target is still your Spartan.” Hal said as he continued the attack.

“But Spartan has its own ability, once per turn when an opponent attacks, my monster can gain the original attack of another of my Heroic monsters until the end of the battle phase, and with Assault Halberd’s attack add to its own that equals 3400.” Nistro explained as the Overdragon blasted out against his Spartan warrior.

Of course this meant he had to suffer another round of punishing fire from the Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon. At this rate not only would his clothes be burnt to cinders but his body might be too.

[Nistro LP > 1200]

Again, Wyverns Dragon had taken a chunk of Nistro’s life points. But although he was in pain he refused to give up. With its power boosted Nistro’s monster was now stronger that Hals mechanical meance!

[Heroic Challenger – Spartan – ATK:1600 > 3400]

[CO ATK:3200 < HCS ATK:3400, Hal LP > 800]

The warrior cut through the deadly beam of energy, its spear piercing through and into the Chimeratech dragon. Shattering it and taking a piece of Hals life points with it.

“What the blazes! Wyvern if I loses this duel because of your dragon I swear…” Hal complained. Thanks to her dragons effect, and his own mistakes, his life points had reach a critical point.

Although Nistro was in little better shape their true target was Drake after all.

“Cool it Silver, you may have taken a beating but so has your foe. So long as one of us defeats Drake our King won’t care if you lost to your own carelessness.” Wyvern replied.

“You…!! Fine! Since I control no monsters I can special summon the Cyber Dragon in my hand to the field in defence mode and end my turn.”

It was Drakes turn again.
