Yu-Gi-Oh! ZD: Rise Of The Dragons (A Yu-Gi-Oh! Fanfiction) - Chapter 53
[Turn 8 – D LP:3500/H:2, W LP:3000/H:3, N LP:1200/H:1, H LP:800/H:0]
That was some nasty dragon Wyvern had, Drake thought as he watched Hal and Nistro duke it out. The Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon which dealt 500 damage whenever an opponent activated a card or effect was a perfect example of the power of a Red-Eyes burn deck. The two charred duellists in front of Drake were prime examples of what could happen to him if he left that infernal dragon on the field to continually burn him.
Fortunately it was his turn and he already had what he needed to deal with it, Drake though as he looked to his twin headed monster.
“I draw.”
The card he drew was useless for now, but perhaps it could have a use later. But first…
“Go Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon and attack Wyverns Red-Eyes Black Flare Metal Dragon! Twin Stream of Destruction!” He commanded.
The two headed dragon gathered its thunderous fury within its mouths, brilliant lightning crackled within its maw before blasting out in a double stream of destruction that twisted around each other in a great spiral of power towards Wyverns monster that stood beside the chained form of Drakes Blue-Eyes Starlight Dragon.
“I activate my dragon effect, by using one Overlay Unit I revive a <Red-Eyes Black dragon from my Graveyard.” Wyvern said as her Xyz monsters last Overlay Unit rip opened a portal to the graveyard and resurrected Wyverns signature black dragon back to the field in defence.
[Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon – OU:1 > 0]
Although thanks to her previous Red-Eyes Fang with Chain trap card she had been able to steal away Drakes Blue-Eyes Starlight Dragon, giving her Red-Eyes a boosted attack of 3000 her Flare Metal dragon was still doomed anyway as it could only match Drakes Twin Burst Dragons power, it was best to use its last Overlay unit while she could and bolster her defence.
[BETBD ATK:3000 = REBFMD ATK:3000]
With a tug of the chain it held in the dragons black claws, Drakes Starlight Dragon was forced forwards into the path of the blazing energy. Opening its maw it answered the overwhelming blast of power with an equally powerful blast of its Starlightning, the conflicting energies exploding out across both side of the field.
Their powers were equal but the difference between them was that Drakes Twin Burst could not be destroyed by battle, leaving only the Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon and its captive Blue-Eyes to be destroyed in the shockwave. Another difference was that Drakes Two headed beast could also attack up to two monsters a turn.
“Now I attack your Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon!”
Drake could not afford to leave a monster capable of inflicting burn damage like the Black Flare Dragon out on the field. Not if he wanted to strengthen his defence this turn.
[BETBD ATK:3000 > REBFD ATK:2400 – Wyvern LP > 2400]
The double stream of destructive lightning ripped into Wyverns dragon, destroying it along with a chunk of her life points.
“I end my turn by setting a monster and a facedown.” Drake finished his turn.
“A nice try Atlas, but it still won’t save you.” Wyvern smugly boasted.
She had studied his duels well and although she did not know just what that facedown he had just played was, Wyvern was confident that it wouldn’t be able to save him from the fiery devastation she was planning to unleash on him.
“I draw! Then I activate <Red-Eyes Insight> by sending <Red-Eyes Wyvern> from my deck to the grave I can then add a second copy of my <Red-Eyes Fusion> to my hand. Which I will now activate! I send a <Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon> and a <Meteor Dragon Red Eyes Impact> from my deck to the grave. Come forth the dragon that herald’s extinction! Go fusion summon! <Meteor Black Comet Dragon>!”
[Meteor Black Comet Dragon – Lv8 ATK:3500/DEF:2000]
A black meteorite seemed to pierce the projected sky above them, its rocky exterior crumbling away as the friction of its re-entry burned away its outer shell, with a shake of its mighty wings the remaining think layer of rock was blasted away as the bright orange flames danced across the surface of its body. The layer of blasted rock hurtled down towards Drake like a meteor shower.
“When this card is fusion summoned, I can send another copy of my Red-Eyes Black Dragon to the grave to deal half that cards original attack to you as damage Atlas! Go Red Storm!”
“Witch! Finish off this guy first!” Hal complained, pointing to Nistro.
Half of 2400 was 1200, which would have been enough to wipe of the interfering duellist that had caused so much trouble in their plan to take down Drake. But Wyvern wasn’t listening, Nistro was only a danger to Hal at the moment and he had no more facedowns either, so why should she bother herself with him? she only had eyes for Drake at this moment.
“Why should I? Drake is the prize here and I will finish him this turn. So Atlas you now receive 1200 points of damage!” She cried in wicked delight as the fire storm smashed into Drake, flinging him into the dark wall of shadow magic surrounding the duel field.
[Drake LP > 2300]
A layer of blue light wrapped around Drake as numerous shadow hands seemed to form from the swirling wall and try to drag the chosen of Critias into the dark abyss within. Protected by the power of the legendary Dragon, Drake brushed the sinister hands away as he moved back to his original position under the relieved gaze of Nistro.
Nistro had seen many weird things working for Dr Faker, but the shadow magic sealing this duel was among the creepiest he had ever seen.
Wyvern was cackling in glee at the sorry sight, a vicious grin on her lips as she continued her turn.
“Then I will finish you with this! <Inferno Fire Blast>! This spell deals damage to you equal the original attack of a Red-Eyes Black Dragon I control, and just to be extra certain I will use my Meteor Black Comet Dragon! I can do this thanks to Red-Eyes Fusion, as the monster its summons has its name treated as Red-Eyes Black Dragon!”
“Wyvern!” Screamed Hal.
That was 3500 Damage, enough to have wiped out Drakes life points even without her Meteor dragons effect just now, in fact she could have wiped out both of these fools at once instead of ignoring Nistro. Was she planning on using Nistro deal with him? Hal wondered.
“So say ‘Hello’ to 3500 damage and ‘goodbye’ to your soul as you sink into the shadows forever.” Wyvern rejoiced as her Meteor dragon let loose a crimson and black fireball over the Twin Burst Dragon and straight at Drake.
Drake braced himself against the incoming fireball. In truth there was nothing he could do right now, he had lost. No ace in the hole or clever strategy could save him now. His luck had run out. All he could do now was gather the power of Critias to defend against the oncoming power of the Shadow Realm. As for the tournament, well he had that extra life which he could use to remain in the running, but that was only if he could survive the magic Wyvern and Hal had summoned to consume him.
Which was stronger? The Power of Shadows, or the Power of the Legendary Dragons? It looked like Drake would soon find out.
“Guess I have no choice. I can’t deal with them both alone.” Mumbled Nistro, forgotten to one side.
As much as he was confident in his duelling skills, taking on two high ranking members of New Order together seemed to be a bit beyond his abilities at this point, and while Drake may be considered an enemy of Doctor Faker, Nistro also knew that Kite considered him an ally against New Order.
As the Inferno Fire Blast came hurtling towards Drake the figure of a monster wielding a spear and shield jumped up in front of the blast from the field.
“Go Skill – Sacrificial Shield! By tributing my Spartan I can half the damage you are about to inflict!” shouted Nistro as his monster was blown to pieces under the force of Wyverns attack.
<<Skill Activated: Sacrificial Shield (Consumable) – tribute one monster to half the next battle or effect damage that would be dealt.>>
“What?!” cried Wyvern in disbelief.
She couldn’t believe this, her perfect plan! Her glory! Her victory! Her reward! She could feel it slipping away as the massive fireball shrunk by half after its collision with Nistro’s monster.
“Noooo!” She cried out.
“I told you to get rid of him first Wyvern!” Hal scolded.
But a part of him was secretly pleased. This meant he still had a chance to gain the favour of their King.
The fireball slammed into Drake, his feet leaving trails in the floor as he was pushed backwards towards the wall of darkness. The glimmering light of a barrier surrounded him, protecting him from the scorching touch of the flames. With the damage reduced by half that meant Drake would only take 1750 damage now.
[Drake LP > 550]
“Err.. Thank you…?” Drake said as he lowered his crossed arms to look at Nistro.
Honestly, he was surprised to have come out of that attack with his soul intact. It had never crossed his mind that Nistro could, or would, help him at this critical moment. While he was surprised, he certainly wasn’t going to complain.
The best thing was that the only monsters on Wyverns field were all counted as Red-Eyes Black Dragon, and the spell Inferno Fire Blast was very like Drakes Burst Stream of Destruction, using it had a powerful effect but it then it would prevent all Red-Eyes Black Dragons from attacking this turn.
“Don’t thank me, I just need you to take help me take down these guys. After that it will be your turn too.” Nistro shrugged off Drakes thanks. This was a temporary alliance only.
“Aaaaargh! I set two cards face down and end my turn.” Wyvern finished her turn in frustration, the shadows behind her roiling in reflection of her anger towards the interfering bug that had foiled her magnificent plan.
[Turn 10 – N LP:1200/H:1, H LP:800/H:0, D LP:550/H:1, W LP:2400/H:0]
“My turn, and I first activate my personal Skill! Xyz Arrest!”
<<Personal Skill – Xyz Arrest: Once per duel, activate at the start of your turn. When you successfully Xyz summon a monster you may select a facedown spell or trap card on the field. That card cannot be activated this turn, cards and effects cannot be active in response to this skill.>>
“And now I draw! You lady are too fiery for your own good so I better deal with you fast and hard.” Nistro said.
“You interfering nit!” Wyvern cursed.
Looking at what he just drew Nistro almost regretted saving Drake, with this he might have had a chance on his own after all. But it was too late for regrets now.
“I summon Heroic Challenger – Thousand Blades to the field.”
[Heroic Challenger – Thousand Blades – Lv4 ATK:1300/DEF:1100]
A warrior with mage up of numerous blades appeared next to Nistros Assault Halberd, but it would not be there for long.
“Now with my Thousand Blades and Assault Halberd I build the Overlay Network and Xyz summon the Heroic spear of the king, <Number 86: Heroic Champion – Rhongomyniad>!”
[Number 86: Heroic Champion – Rhongomyniad – Rank 4 ATK:1500 > 3000/DEF:1500 > 3000 OU:2]
The Heroic Champion clad in pure white armour stood proud on the field next to its master. Its legendary golden spear held at the ready. Around its body hung a yellow aura that seemed to fill the monster with even greater strength.
The Number marking of 86 appeared on Nistros hand, but thanks to the Photon technology developed by Dr Faker his mind was protected from the influence of the Number card.
“You might have noticed my monster is sporting some serious extra power, well that’s all thanks to its special ability, so long as 2 or more Overlay units are attached to it my monster gains an addition 1500 ATK.”
“This bug has a Number Card?” Hal exclaimed. And he was right to be surprised.
Nistro had actually gone against the standing orders of Dr Faker when he had secretly kept this Number card he had acquired a few days ago for himself, for this, for his revenge. After all Shark was a Number user and the best way to fight a Number was with another Number.
While Nistro’s Xyz monster had already appeared on the field, the Black vortex it had appeared from had not yet vanished, instead it began to collapse in on its self, transforming into a bright shining star.
“Since I successfully Xyz summoned a monster, my skill now takes effect. This allows me to paralyze one of your face downs, preventing you from activating it this turn. You cannot activate cards or effect in response to this skill.”
The shining star flew out towards Wyvern and crashed into one of her facedowns, wrapping it in a white light that transformed into a kind of crystal.
“But why stop with 3000 attack when I can take it further. I activate <Megamorph>! This equip spell will double my monsters attack so long an opponent has more life points than I do.”
[Number 86: Heroic Champion – Rhongomyniad – ATK:3000 > 6000]
While Wyverns weaker Red-Eyes was safe in defence mode, with 6000 ATK Nistro’s Number could still over power even her Meteor Black Comet Dragon and wipe out her life points. Giving Nistro his long awaited vengeance.
“Get ready! This is for Dextra! Number 86, ATTACK!”
Like blinding gold streak of light the Number thrust out its spear, driving it deep into the burning body of Wyverns monster which gave out a mournful cry before shattering into nothingness.
[N86 ATK:6000 > MBCD ATK:3500, Wyvern LP > 3900]
“What! Why did your life points increase!” Nistro cried as Wyvern curled up into herself in a fit of laughter.
Now her Life points had almost been completely restored!
“Ha ha ha! That’s because of my trap <Nutrient Z>, you only froze one of my facedowns after all, such a pity you chose the wrong one! Since your attack would have deal more than 2000 damage to me this trap card first boosts my life points by 4000, so thank you muscle head.”
The burning fire left behind by Wyverns monster began to gather together into the form of a familiar black dragon.
“And next my dragons special ability activates when it is destroyed, allowing me to special summon a normal dragon from my grave. Return my Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon!” Wyvern continued, her monster taking up another defensive stance alongside the original Red-Eyes Black Dragon.
[Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon – Lv7 ATK:2400/DEF:2000]
“Ugh.. I end my turn.”
He might have just blown his best chance at vengeance.
[Turn 11 – H LP:800/H:0, D LP:550/H:1, W LP:3900/H:0, N LP:1200/H:0]
“Well that was intense. Draw.” Hal continued the duel.
“Lucky me, I play <Pot of Greed> to draw two cards.”
The famous green faced pot appeared on the field to grant Hal the boon of his additional cards.
“Time for me to shine! I play <Raigeki> In a Battle Royal this spell allows me to destroy all monster one of my opponents controls, and I choose Drake Atlas!”
Since Drakes two headed dragon could not be destroyed by battle, a spell/trap or card effect was the only way to get rid of it. Thunder rumbled and lightning crashed down against Drakes monsters, destroying everything in its path.
Not only was Drakes Twin Burst destroyed but his face down Blue-Eyes Kuriboh was as well.
Looking at his last remaining card Hal could only sigh. <Power Bond> was a powerful fusion card but it was useless while he only had the one Cyber Dragon on the field. Although Drake had no monster on the field Hal knew that he was not yet defenceless. Thanks to his personal skill Insider Information, Hal knew that the card left in Drakes hand was the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon.
Even if that facedown of his was as harmless as it seemed so far, Drake could still summon his Kuriboh from the grave by banishing the dragon in his hand to protect himself. And that would then leave him vulnerable to Nistro, as he doubted that Wyvern would be bothered to help him out.
“Wyvern… do you promise to share the glory if I clear the way for you?” he asked the Black General.
“… fine, I grow bored of this game.”
“Do you promise in the name of our King?” Hal pushed. Unconvinced by her bland reply.
“….. I promise on the name of the Orichalcos King to equally share all the rewards of victory.” Wyvern solemnly swore on the one thing she would never break faith with.
“I switch Cyber Dragon to attack mode and attack Drake directly!”
“I banish the <Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon> in my hand from the game to special summon <Blue-Eyes Kuriboh> from the grave in defence mode.” Drake said, doing exactly what Hal had expected.
[Blue-Eyes Kuriboh – Lv1 > 10 ATK:300/DEF:200]
Drakes cosplaying Kuriboh bounded back onto the field, the aura of the mighty Shining dragon wrapped around itself and its carboard costume as it shielded its master from the metallic menace of Hals Cyber Dragon.
The only question Hal had now was what was that facedown Drake still had? The destructive Mirror Force that could destroy all attacking monsters? Dragons Rebirth that he could use to bring back one of his lost monsters? Or perhaps it was a useless utility card like Dragons Rage.
“Cyber Dragon continue your attack and destroy that Blue-Eyes Kuriboh! Strident Blast!”
[CD ATK:2100 > BEK DEF:200]
*Boom*
“I end my turn, you had better finish this on your turn Wyvern.”
[Number 86: Heroic Champion – Rhongomyniad – ATK:3000 > 6000 OU:2 > 1]
