Zenith: Last Revenant - Chapter 47
After the notification from Hex, ten minutes had already passed, the bio-ship was currently in the process of exiting warp space. While in this special method of traversal, the surroundings turned into a vortex of endless streaming colors, guiding the ship at speeds vastly above that of the light to the set destination.
Soon enough, the head of the ship breached through a crack in the endless void and appeared above the surface of a rather small planet. Upon their arrival above the atmosphere, Spencer opened the rear of the ship and stood at the edge of the platform that protruded from the ship. Looking down at the planet’s surface, he examined for a moment.
“Bey’on! The ship is all yours until I get back!” he shouted.
Bey’on didn’t respond, but he knew that she had heard him.
Spencer moved forward and walked off the edge of the platform on the back of the ship, prompting him to begin his rapid descent onto the planet. Putting his legs together and folding his arms below his ċhėst, he quickly descended until he had inevitably breached the atmosphere. From that moment on, his frame began to heat up from the friction between his body and the atmosphere.
He began to fall from the sky like a flaming spear towards the surface, swiftly cutting through the resistance against his approach towards the ground. Using his energy as a way to propel himself, he accelerated to the ground below in an instant. As he looked down, he could see that he was about to crash down, he swiftly canceled out his momentum and contained the pressure surrounding him to prevent it from damaging the area around him.
Hovering slightly off the ground, Spencer dispersed the energy engulfing his body and placed his feet on the ground of this new planet.
“Alright, let’s check out what I can find in this place.”
Landing on the firm blue grass-esque protrusions on the terrain, Spencer lifted his head and scanned the scenery of the planet to familiarize himself with it as much as he could before any further action. Looking all around him, all that could be seen were a variety of unique looking trees that permeated the area, no life or activity of any kind was found in the small area of which he occupied.
While he was exploring the new environment with his eyes, an unknown sweet aroma graced his senses suddenly, the smell being almost soothing in its nature. Attracting his attention immediately, and without much hassle, he was able to pinpoint that the source of the smell was the very trees around him. Walking up to one of the trees and gently placing his hand on its surface, as if it was made of clay, the area he touched sank inward and outlined his hand. Once he removed it, a pink viscous fluid remained on his hand.
“What’s this supposed to be?! Is it some kind of honey?”
Bringing the fluid closer to his nose, he could smell the sweetness it held in its aroma. He could also smell something strange. Promptly setting his hand of fire, the liquid evaporated into the air and released an array of colors before his eyes, drawing his attention further to what this fluid was.
What stood before him was a behemoth of a creature. Roughly five meters tall, incredibly large, and fully covered in a black carapace. The head looked to be covered by armor as well, even to the point that his eyelids seemed to be padded as well. Only the sides of its head and the joints had a slight opening. The creature had a total of six appendages, four massive arms, and two hind legs deeply planted into the ground.
The creature released a deafening roar in Spencer’s direction and promptly started slamming its fists into the ground repeatedly, causing strong tremors with each blow. Spencer examined it as it displayed its heightened level of aggression towards him.
“Huh, aren’t you an interesting one… What could have drawn you here so quickly? Hmm… Maybe the smell of the burning fluid? Or something else perhaps?”
As he contemplated how it could have found him so quickly, the creature sunk its arms and legs into the ground and launched itself towards him. As it was in the air, it instantly curled itself into a ball and accelerated at a greater speed. Spencer watched and captured every moment of its mid-air change, continuing to stand in place without moving as it came closer. On Collision, an explosion of dust was released as a trail continued to stretch away from where they were formerly. The strange trees in the way were pushed from their roots as if they weren’t there.
Soon enough the trail stopped and the dust quickly dissipated, in full view Spencer could be seen with his right hand held out holding the still rotating creature in place. Soon enough it stopped spinning and curled out of a ball, jumping away from him and launching itself into the air.
“This ‘thing’ is pretty fast for its size…” – he exclaimed.
Curling into a ball in the air, the creature rapidly descended towards him.
“Why is it so agitated? What did I do?”
As the creature descended upon him, he waited for it to arrive closer before raising his left hand and stopping its descent, the force of the impact causing his legs to sink into the ground up to his knees. Spencer threw the curled-up creature to the side and waited for it to uncurl itself. As it was in the process of doing just that, he telepathically invaded its mind to see what had caused it to become so agitated, but the only thing he found was a cloud of bloodlust within its thoughts.
“What am I supposed to do with you? How could you have no thoughts at all?!”
He grew incredibly confused and watched as the creature lunged at him for the third time in a row with a greater level of aggression than shown before. It seemed to have become more agitated as time passed. Spencer engulfed it in his energy and restrained the creature before it could attack again, lifting it from the ground and making it gravitate towards him. It continued to thrash around in the air in an attempt to escape his hold, but its resistance was in vain.
“Seeing as how you could do all this in such a short amount of time, you could be very useful later on. Well, until I find something stronger that is…”
Once it was in front of him, Spencer placed his hand on its head and searched deeper within its mind for its sudden aggression towards him. After a quick look, he came to see that he invaded the creature’s territory and it was currently in a hyper agitated state. Finding the core of the creature’s aggression, he then proceeded to replace that aggression with trust and loyalty, generating false memories and rewiring the brain of the creature. Immediately after doing so, it quickly stopped thrashing around and became docile towards him.
Putting the creature down, it sat on its hind legs and looked at Alexander in a calm state, not expressing even a hint of the aggression it had before.
“Much better!”
Bringing attention to the cuff on his left bicep, he waved his right hand over it, prompting the device to activate. The cuff then proceeded to quickly liquefy and flow off his arm, landing on the soil of the ground beneath him. After it came in contact with the ground, it quickly rose and converged into the phantom modular armor as it stood in wait for directions.
“Hex, scan this place for life forms. Procure the essence of all that you can find.” He immediately gave the command to the seemingly empty armor.
In the next second, the monotone male voice of Hex rescinded from the shell.
[As you wish, host.]
“Let’s get going, I want to see as much of this place as I can.”
The creature began to walk forward in a straight line without a true destination, continuing on a path to entertain its new owner.. Spencer sat arms crossed, waiting on its back for whatever was to come in the near future, hoping that he could find something that could prove to be useful to him in any way.
