Zombie Brother - Chapter 8
Bai Xiaofei tried the trick once again. He climbed down the drain-pipe slowly, only to hear some
queer sounds from several rooms of the stories and catch a glimpse of something flashing in the
dark room. But he would not bother to pay more attentions to that as he used his hands and feet
alternately. Finally, with a jump, he landed on the first floor, safe and sound.
Bai Xiaofei looked around with caution. There was merely creepy tranquility hanging over,
except for some faint gunshots drifting from afar. He gritted his mouth and hopped on the path that
he mapped out.
Once the densely-populated area of foreigners and now metropolis of modernization, H City
rolled the fashionable glamour and lamentable decline into one so harmoniously that some
old-fashioned civil residencies still stood there for hundreds of years against the shade of the
world-class skyscrapers. Some of the senior residents were still housing stools, which in the eyes
of nostalgic weirdos, represented a civil custom.
Bai Xiaofei was now walking through an alley in a block of old houses. It was so narrow that
two people, if confronted, would have to pass by each other with their lateral bodies. Still, the
advantage was plain to see that nothing could hide. One could have an eyeful of the alley from one
end.
Before he ran into every single alley, Bai Xiaofei would make an observation first at one end.
Assured of there being no Zombie Brothers, he would get through at the quickest speed he could.
As of now, the preset routes of Bai Xiaofei had been perfectly safe. Even there came the screams and odd roars from behind the horse-head wall on the both ends of the alley, Bai Xiaofei was not affected.
The lonely rattles of Bai Xiaofei in the alley were accompanied by the heavy gasps. He was a
graphic designer and indoorsman, which degraded his physical strength to basically none. He was
quite out of his breath from the scurry. To make things worse, Bai Xiaofei was simply going
around in circles as his effort to avoid Zombie Brothers. And he maintained a close linear distance
from his apartment building!
The sight widening, he ran out of the alley.
Outside the alley there mounted a park of grassland, with mowed grass, luxuriantly green trees and all sorts of body building apparatuses.
The moment Bai Xiaofei was about to walk past the park, there flashed a figure to behind the tree.
There was a sound on the lawn.
Crunch. Crunch. The rusty sound of the iron chains were so jarring and thrilling for the dark night.
Bai Xiaofei protruded his head from behind the tree. There was a kid, five or six years old, sitting on the one end of the seesaw on the lawn, and alone. His short leg supported and tilted the seesaw, seemingly having fun with the other end where there was none. His left hand was not empty or so, as he put something into the mouth for chewing.
The jarring sound of the iron was given by the seesaw.
Bai Xiaofei took a relieved breath, but soon stayed alert. Hell, where did this kid come from? How came that the kid was left playing outside at such a critical moment? Where were his parents? He was a natural hater of those parents who would rather have than behave a baby. “Are you crazy or something? How could you just leave a kid alone when you have brought him to this world?”
Bai Xiaofei, while cursing the parents, was hesitant himself about whether to leave here directly or save the poor kid. The innocent kid was highly prone to the attack of a Zombie Brother. But how was he supposed to save Wei with the kid around?
Bai Xiaofei gritted his teeth again. He could not allow the kid at the mercy of death. “Forget it. There’s a evacuation site nearby. It would be just-in-time to send the kid to the army and return here.”
He then popped out from the tree and was ready to approach the kid. Then quite accidentally, the kid fell off the seesaw.
Just when he rushed himself to the aid of the kid, Bai Xiaofei’s eyes became fixed. He could see clearly that “something” on his left hand and for some chewy bites were half an arm that somehow got separated from his elbow.
A Zombie Brother.
The kid who played alone on the seesaw of the lawn was a Zombie Brother.
Bai Xiaofei retreated to behind the tree, now into a discreet observation of the little Zombie Brother with the cover of the plants.
From the appearance, the mutation of the little zombie was limited to his mouth which occupied almost half his head. His teeth were as sharp as saws. The only difference lied in that he did not grow a bone throne and long tongue like Bai Xiaofei’s female neighbor did.
The little Zombie Brother did not cry after he fell off the seesaw. He was now absorbed in biting his half arm.He even got a mouthful of his half arm as seemed most pleasing to him.
He was not chewing now!
Bai Xiaofei felt gross and scared. One bite on his body, and he would be another “Blade Runner”. Darn it. One could never be too careful with those Zombie Brothers. Imagine the mutation, even of a five-or-six-year-old kid, would have such a killing effect.
The little Zombie Brother swallowed his half arm and made a strange movement. He took off his pants, revealing his white hip and squatting down. He…he was going number 2.
Bai Xiaofei was amused. Morality. The morality of Chinese had always been an international headache. Peeing and pooping everywhere was kind of a label, with no exception to the Zombie Brothers.
However, something horrible ensued. The half arm swallowed by the little Zombie Brother a while ago came out from his asshole, firstly his phalanges with skin and flesh digested, then his wrist and forearm. Holy crap. Within such a limited time, the half arm were skinned to bones in his intestines and stomach. Was that aqua regia, AKA corpse-melting portion, in that stomach?
The little Zombie Brother was still tiling his butt for pooping. It got stuck and the cries of “feed” got out of his mouth. The bones of the half arm was there and found now way out.
Bai Xiaofei, frowning, strode over from behind the tree and to the little Zombie Brother, with the knife in hand.
Sooner or later, he would be engaged with a deadly fight against all kinds of Zombie Brothers. He might as well start with the little Zombie and feed the watermelon knife with some blood, given that he still did not know the fatal weakness of the Zombie Brothers.
The little Zombie Brother found the coming food, too. He opened his mouth widely, roared “feed…”, stood on his feet, revealed his penis, moved his legs and pounced on Bai Xiaofei.
“Bang.” The little Zombie fell and kissed the ground. His pants were still on the lower part of the knees. Besides, his balance did not keep pace with the sudden movement, only to take a solid fall.
Fine. It was not a big deal. It was only too typical of a kindergarten kid to make such a mistake. In contrast, the little Zombie Brother was fairly brave. He did not scream, cry or roll all over, wishing a teacher could offer warm hugs to him. Instead, he stood up and made another attempt at Bai Xiaofei.
